KB5041873 is the update identifier for Windows 11 Insider Preview build 22635.4076, announced for the Beta Channel on August 19, 2024. It is a historical Insider release based on Windows 11 version 23H2—not a general public Windows 11 update. Microsoft’s announcement says this build series uses an enablement package.
What is KB5041873?
KB5041873 identifies Windows 11 Insider Preview build 22635.4076. Microsoft announced it on August 19, 2024, for Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel, based on Windows 11 version 23H2. The announcement was published by Amanda Langowski and Brandon LeBlanc.
The release note is relevant to people following that Insider build, not evidence that the same changes were delivered to every Windows 11 user. In this build series, Microsoft said Beta Channel updates use an enablement package.
What changed in build 22635.4076?
Windows Studio Effects tray icon temporarily disabled
Microsoft temporarily disabled an improvement from an earlier build that showed a system-tray icon when an application used a camera with Windows Studio Effects enabled. The company said it planned to re-enable the feature in a future flight; the August 19 announcement does not give a date for that return.

Fixes rolling out gradually
Microsoft listed these fixes as gradual rollouts, so not every Beta Channel Insider would necessarily receive them immediately:
- File Explorer keyboard focus when selecting an unselected item on a tab.
- Voice Access commands for supported non-English languages.
- The emoji panel closing while switching between kaomoji and symbols, or after selecting an emoji.
- A Registry Editor error that could save a pasted hexadecimal DWORD or QWORD value incorrectly. Microsoft’s example was entering
0x1and having it saved as0x411.
Fixes available to everyone in the Beta Channel
The release note said the following fixes were available to all Beta Channel Insiders in this build:

- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.
- Systems becoming unresponsive during Wi-Fi data transfers.
- Additions to the vulnerable-driver blocklist.
- Windows Defender Application Control (WDAC) policy failures and a memory leak related to provisioning.
- Group Policy Preferences and Local Users and Groups behavior in certain multi-forest environments.
- Autopilot provisioning on Surface Laptop SE.
- A registry setting that browsers ignored.
- TCP/IP problems involving high CPU use, packet loss, and connection success rates.

- Print Support App and Universal Print issues.
- Removal of the NetJoinLegacyAccountReuse registry key.
- Windows Backup failures on devices with an EFI system partition.
- Use of the Windows Update Agent API in PowerShell and VBScript.
Known issues Microsoft listed
Microsoft documented two possible explorer.exe crashes for some Insiders and said it was working on fixes:
- Closing apps from the taskbar could cause File Explorer to crash.
- Interacting with archive files could cause File Explorer to crash.
These were risks reported for some Insider installations, not a statement that every device running the build was affected.

Why might an Insider not see every change?
The announcement divided some features and fixes into gradual rollout groups. Insiders who turned on the “get the latest updates as they are available” toggle could receive the first group earlier, while Microsoft expanded availability over time. Therefore, absence of a gradual change immediately after installing the build does not by itself mean the installation failed.
