The release included a mix of gradual-rollout features, changes for all Beta Channel Insiders, and fixes across Windows components. Microsoft also listed known issues, including possible IIS and WCF failures after installation.
What’s new in KB5037002?
Microsoft’s April 26, 2024 announcement identifies this as a Beta Channel Insider Preview. Its later release-note clarification says Beta Channel builds were based on Windows 11, version 23H2, delivered through an enablement package. The announcement describes preview changes; it does not establish that this build is currently offered to Insiders.
The changes were split between features rolling out gradually to people who enabled the setting to get the latest updates as they are available, and changes listed for everyone in the Beta Channel. A gradual rollout does not mean the feature appeared for every eligible Insider at the same time.
Gradual rollout for Insiders with the latest-updates setting enabled
- Show Desktop: The taskbar button was to be shown by default. Users could manage it in Taskbar settings.
- File Explorer: Dragging and dropping files between breadcrumbs in the address bar, introduced in an earlier build, became available to all Beta Channel Insiders.
Changes listed for all Beta Channel Insiders
- Widgets: Taskbar icons were made clearer, with more animated icons rolling out. Microsoft also addressed reliability and customization of Widgets on the lock screen.
- Settings: A crash when copying text was fixed, and Settings responsiveness was addressed.
- Printing and deployment: The update fixed duplicate print queues on universal printers and added Arm64 MSI support through Group Policy.
- Security and administration: Changes covered HVCI-compatible drivers, PIN-based elevation, the vulnerable driver blocklist, Protected Process Light protections, and LAPS post-authentication actions.
- Networking and virtualization: Microsoft listed changes for WSL2 split-DNS name resolution, network port-exhaustion troubleshooting, TCP timestamp performance, Host Networking Service memory use, container networking, and multi-OS boot races.
- System and device components: Listed work included Distributed Transaction Coordinator memory use, Japanese touch keyboard layout, Snipping Tool screen-recording policy, Bluetooth A2DP offload, media allocation, accelerator backing-store memory, mobile operator profiles, and ReFS performance.
The announcement does not quantify performance gains or provide an independent test report. The component list identifies areas addressed, not a guarantee that every change affects every PC.

What issues did Microsoft report?
These are known issues Microsoft reported in that historical Insider post, not confirmation that every device was affected or that the same problems remain present today.
- IIS and WCF: Microsoft was investigating reports that Internet Information Services (IIS) and Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) might not work after installing the update.
- Windows Backup entry: A Start menu entry associated with Windows Backup was appearing incorrectly under All apps. The post marks this item as added on April 29, after the original announcement.
- Updated Copilot window experience: Some users could encounter unexpected auto-launch behavior, unreliable Voice access, or Windows Ink not working in Copilot.
- Widgets on left-aligned taskbars: Users with the Widgets entry point could encounter swipe or unpinning problems, incorrect positioning when Copilot was side-by-side, or a taskbar refresh when changing Widgets settings.
Microsoft’s post does not provide a complete device-by-device compatibility matrix, so it cannot establish which configurations were affected.

Who should treat this build as relevant?
KB5037002 is useful as a reference for people tracking Windows Insider Beta Channel builds, investigating a system around the April 2024 release, or checking whether a listed component change corresponds to a known issue. It is not a general Windows 11 update guide or evidence that a fix was independently verified across configurations.
The post’s authors, Amanda Langowski and Brandon LeBlanc, describe the channel this way: “The Beta Channel is the place we preview experiences that are closer to what we will ship to our general customers.” That is the purpose of this preview channel, not a promise that every feature or fix in this build shipped unchanged to general Windows users.
