Neither Kalshi nor Polymarket is universally cheaper or available to everyone. The better fit depends on the specific market, whether your order takes or adds liquidity, contract price and size, how you fund the account, and where you live. Compare the same event and order type on both platforms, then confirm current fees and eligibility before depositing.
Kalshi vs. Polymarket fees: how to compare them
Both platforms use price-sensitive trading fees, so a headline rate is not enough to determine the cost of a trade. The schedules below are the platforms’ published terms in July 2026; fees and market classifications can change.
Kalshi’s contract fee
Kalshi’s fee schedule effective July 7, 2026 sets the general taker fee at round up(M × 0.07 × C × P × (1−P)). Here, M is the market’s fee multiplier (1 by default), C is the number of contracts, and P is the contract price. The schedule lists a $1.75 fee for 100 contracts priced at $0.50 under the general taker schedule. This is a formula result, not a flat percentage of the trade’s value. Some series use a different multiplier, so check the multiplier shown for the market you plan to trade.
Kalshi’s general maker formula uses a coefficient of 0.0175, but its default maker multiplier is 0 unless otherwise indicated. Fees generally apply when an order is immediately matched against the book; resting orders are generally not charged unless a maker fee applies to that series. The schedule says, “There is no settlement fee” and “There is no membership fee.” See Kalshi’s fee schedule effective July 7, 2026.

Polymarket’s category-based fees
Polymarket’s help page dated July 10, 2026 lists taker fee rates by market category. The stated rate range is 0 to 0.07, and the fee formula is C × feeRate × p × (1−p). Makers are not charged under the described schedule; only takers pay. Geopolitics/world-events markets are listed as fee-free on that page.

Which prediction market has lower fees?
There is no reliable platform-wide answer. A fair comparison uses the same or closest equivalent contract, side, price, size and order behavior on each platform. Calculate the platform trading fee, then account for the bid–ask spread, slippage, funding conversion, intermediary charges and withdrawal costs. A quoted trading fee alone is not the all-in cost of entering and exiting a position.
Compare the contracts, not just the market titles
Similar event titles do not establish that two contracts are interchangeable. Kalshi’s policy excludes specified subjects, including war and death markets. Polymarket’s fee categories cover areas such as crypto, sports, finance, politics, economics, culture, weather, general, mentions, technology and geopolitics; those labels do not guarantee that a matching live market exists. Before treating contracts as alternatives, compare:
- Question and outcome wording: identify exactly what must happen for each outcome to win.
- Resolution rules and source: check what evidence determines the result and how disputes or ambiguous outcomes are handled.
- Settlement timing and payout: confirm when the market resolves and how winning positions are paid.
- Liquidity and spread: inspect the current order book; a wider spread or low liquidity can outweigh a lower stated fee.
- Order type and fee: determine whether your order takes or adds liquidity and check the market-specific schedule.

Is Kalshi available in my state or country?
Kalshi says international access is available, but some jurisdictions are restricted. Its signup help page, dated March 10, 2026, says applicants must be 18 or older and may need document verification. It directs users to its Member Agreement and says users are responsible for checking whether access and use are lawful where they live. International access therefore does not mean universal access. Review Kalshi’s signup and eligibility information and the applicable agreement before registering.

How to choose between Kalshi and Polymarket
- Confirm eligibility first. Check the official onboarding flow and current terms for your state or country before funding either account.
- Find the same event, if available. Compare exact wording, resolution source, settlement timing and payout rather than relying on similar titles.
- Model the same order. Use the same side, price, number of contracts or shares, and maker/taker behavior. Apply the specific market’s current fee rules.
- Compare the all-in cost. Include spread and slippage, funding route, conversion or intermediary charges, and withdrawal costs—not only the trading fee.
- Choose a practical funding route. Check deposit minimums, settlement timing and whether the route is supported for your account and location.
