The announced North American JuiceBox shutdown was scheduled for October 11, 2024—not an upcoming event. As of October 8, 2026, the available official records do not establish whether a successor currently operates JuiceBox cloud services or which features, if any, remain available. Enel X said a charger that loses data connectivity will keep charging at its previously selected current, but that does not guarantee app access or identical behavior across models and regions.

What happened to JuiceBox connectivity?

Enel X Way North America communicated on October 2, 2024, that it would cease operations in the United States and Canada effective October 11, 2024. In its opening record for the safety investigation PE24028, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said the closure could affect the charging app and supporting software. The shutdown date is historical; the records cited here do not establish the current status of North American app or cloud services.

Enel X Way USA transferred assets to an assignee for liquidation on October 11, 2024, according to an asset-assignment record on the JuiceBox North America domain. That record does not identify a current cloud-service operator or confirm which app functions work today.

Will a JuiceBox still charge without Wi-Fi?

Enel X’s official FAQ says that if data connectivity is lost, a JuiceBox continues operating and charging at the current previously set in JuiceNet Dashboard or the JuicePass app. This is the company’s stated offline behavior; it is not a guarantee that every model, setting, or charger will behave identically, or that North American cloud services remain available.

  • Safe & Durable: Rely on this UL-certified EV charger for safe home charging. It can be installed indoors or outdoors by an electrician and includes a cold-resistant cable.
  • Fast & Powerful: This EV charger charges 9× faster than a 120V outlet, delivering up to 45 mi/hr., dependent upon your vehicle. It features a J1772 connector for all non-Tesla EVs and requires a 20A or 80A circuit. For Tesla EVs, this will require an adapter.

Charging hardware and connected features are different things. The February 2023 JuiceBox 40 datasheet describes a residential Level 2 charger with a J1772 output connector and lists app and web control, scheduled charging, charging measurement, and Wi-Fi status indication as connected features. Losing cloud connectivity may therefore affect monitoring or scheduling even if the charger continues to deliver power at its stored current setting.

What can owners check on their charger?

If the app or Wi-Fi connection is unavailable, check the charger’s current behavior and settings rather than assuming that every connected feature still works. Enel X’s offline statement concerns charging at the previously selected current; it does not establish how scheduling, energy limits, or other app-controlled functions behave in every current configuration.

EVIQO Level 2 EV Charger J1772 40A NEMA 14-50 - 240V Wall Charging Station
  • WORKS WITH EVERY NON-TESLA EV: Standard J1772 connector plugs straight into Ford, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, Rivian, Lucid and every other EV or plug-in hybrid sold with a J1772 port - no adapter needed. Tesla drivers can charge too, using the J1772 adapter that comes with the car.
  • PLUG IN, NO HARDWIRING: Level 2 charger delivers up to 40A to fully charge most EVs overnight. Plugs into a 240V, 4-prong NEMA 14-50 outlet (the RV/range type - NOT a dryer outlet) on a dedicated 50A circuit. The extra-long 25 ft cable easily reaches across a garage or driveway. Before ordering, check your car's port type and that you have the right outlet.
  • CONTROL & SAVE FROM YOUR PHONE: A stronger built-in antenna keeps the charger online even in a garage or basement. Use the free app to start/stop charging, set speed (6-40A), get reminders, and track energy use and cost. Schedule off-peak overnight charging to cut your electric bill. Requires 2.4 GHz WiFi.
  • SAFETY-CERTIFIED & WEATHERPROOF: Independently tested and certified (UL, ETL, FCC, Energy Star). A fully sealed IP66 / NEMA 4 housing stands up to rain, snow, heat and dust indoors or out, and internal steel shielding protects the electronics for years of reliable use.
  • GLOW-IN-THE-DARK HOLSTER: The included high-visibility holster glows in the dark so you can find and dock the plug easily at night. Holds the connector securely when not in use.

Enel X also said that an issue involving maximum offline current settings had been identified and updated. Its support page notes that some users whose chargers were offline and had load-sharing or current-limit settings might need to reconnect to Wi-Fi to receive the update. This is a specific support note, not general installation guidance; owners uncertain about their electrical setup should consult a qualified electrician.

What does NHTSA’s JuiceBox investigation mean?

NHTSA opened Preliminary Evaluation PE24028 on October 3, 2024, after receiving complaints alleging electrical arcing and thermal events involving Enel X Way USA residential Level 2 JuiceBox chargers. Its opening resume estimated an investigation population of 180,000 chargers and listed six owner complaints and seven total incidents, including three crash or fire incidents in its summary table. These are reported allegations and incident counts, not a finding that all units are defective or that NHTSA determined a product defect caused the reported events.

Owners should keep the safety investigation separate from the connectivity issue: a cloud-service change does not, by itself, establish that a charger is unsafe, and the investigation counts do not establish that every JuiceBox has a defect. The NHTSA record is available in the PE24028 investigation record.

Should you replace a JuiceBox?

The historical closure announcement alone is not a reason to replace a functioning charger. Decide based on your need for the affected connected features, the charger’s condition, and the requirements of any replacement—not on an assumption that every JuiceBox has stopped charging.

If you do consider a replacement, verify the installation and features before choosing:

  • Connection type: The 2023 JuiceBox 40 datasheet lists NEMA 14-50 and 6-50 plug options as well as a hardwire pigtail. Identify which configuration is installed before comparing alternatives.
  • Connector and vehicle: Check the connector and your vehicle’s charging compatibility for your specific setup.
  • Available circuit capacity: Match a replacement’s maximum current to the home’s installed circuit. The JuiceBox 40 datasheet lists a 40 A maximum, but that figure does not establish the capacity of any particular home’s circuit.
  • Offline behavior: If cloud dependence is a concern, check whether the replacement can charge and retain settings without an app or internet connection.
  • Connected functions: Decide whether you rely on app-based scheduling, charging measurement, or remote control, and confirm those functions are supported for the model and service in your region.

Together, these records document the 2024 closure announcement and the company’s stated behavior when data connectivity is lost. They do not verify whether a successor currently operates North American JuiceBox cloud services or which models and functions that service supports.
