The possibility fits Reliance Industries’ stated plan to take proprietary network technologies to selected international markets with local operators. But the reported regions and potential UBR deal structures remain exploratory: the available sources identify no signed overseas customer or launch.
What is Jio UBR technology?
UBR, or unlicensed-band radio, is Jio’s proprietary point-to-multipoint wireless technology for fixed broadband access. Rather than running a fibre line all the way to each premises, a point-to-multipoint radio network can connect multiple premises over a wireless link. Reliance describes the service as delivering “fibre-like” fixed broadband connectivity; that is the company’s characterization, not a claim that radio and fibre are identical.
Reliance Industries’ FY2025-26 annual report says UBR has helped increase market reach and can connect premises with bandwidth of up to 1 Gbps. That is a company capability statement, not an independent measurement or a guarantee of the speed available at every address. The reviewed sources do not quantify UBR’s cost savings compared with fibre.
Is Jio taking UBR broadband outside India?
Moneycontrol reported on October 7, 2026, citing people familiar with the matter, that Jio Platforms was evaluating partnerships with incumbent operators in Europe, East Asia and Africa. The report described managed services, revenue sharing and joint ventures as possible arrangements. These are reported possibilities, not confirmed agreements: no partner, commercial terms, launch date or overseas UBR deployment is identified in the available material.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The broader international ambition is also stated by Reliance itself. In its FY2025-26 annual report, Reliance says that after developing its 5G and fixed wireless access (FWA) stack in India, Jio would offer proprietary network technologies in selected international markets in partnership with local operators, acting as a managed-services provider. The report names UBR-based FWA alongside cloud-native radio access network (RAN), 5G core and operations and business support systems (OSS/BSS). This supports the wider strategy, but does not confirm the regions or commercial structures in Moneycontrol’s report.
At a 2025 Reliance event, chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani said, “And five, Jio will expand its operations outside India with our own technology to people around the world.” The statement signals ambition; it does not establish that UBR has been contracted or deployed abroad.

What does Jio’s existing UBR service show?
JioBusiness markets Business Broadband Max as using next-generation AirFiber UBR technology. Its service page advertises speeds of up to 1 Gbps, Wi-Fi 6 and a public static IP. Those are product-page specifications, not evidence that every customer or location receives the maximum speed, and they say nothing by themselves about performance in an overseas network.
Jio’s company page lists UBR among its proprietary network technologies. It also reports 27.1 million JioFiber and JioAirFiber subscribers combined as of March 31, 2026. That figure covers both services and is not a count of UBR-only subscribers.

Where could UBR fit, and what would determine an overseas deal?
The clearest use case is a location where extending fibre to premises is difficult or costly. UBR could provide an alternative way to reach those premises, but the sources do not establish that it is cheaper or faster than fibre in a particular country, or that it can replace fibre in every setting.
Any deployment would depend on local conditions and the deal Jio makes with an operator. Relevant questions include:

- Deployment fit: Are target premises hard or expensive to connect by wire, or is extending fibre already practical?
- Commercial structure: Would the arrangement be managed services, revenue sharing or a joint venture? Moneycontrol reported these as possible models; no terms have been disclosed.
- Technology scope: Would a partner use UBR/FWA alone or a broader managed network package including 5G core, cloud-native RAN and OSS/BSS?
- Local execution: Which operator would provide the partnership, and what local regulatory and spectrum conditions would apply? The available sources do not provide country-level licensing details.
For now, the evidence supports a distinction between strategic direction and execution: Reliance has stated an intention to take proprietary network technologies to selected markets with local operators, while the specific UBR regions and potential deal models remain reported evaluations.
