One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchChoose the JBL PartyBox 720 if you need battery operation or want its documented Auracast speaker-linking option. Choose the PartyBox 710 if you want the lighter of the two or plan to pair two 710s with JBL True Wireless Sound. Both are large, wheeled, IPX4-rated speakers with an 800 W listed output; their specifications do not establish which sounds better in a real room or outdoors.
JBL PartyBox 720 vs. PartyBox 710: key differences
| Feature | PartyBox 720 | PartyBox 710 | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rated output | 800 W RMS (IEC60268), according to JBL’s specifications | 800 W, according to JBL’s specifications | The listed figures match, but do not prove identical measured loudness. |
| Stated frequency response | 32 Hz–20 kHz | 35 Hz–20 kHz (-6 dB) | The 720 has the lower stated low-frequency limit. JBL presents the figures with different labels, and they are not a substitute for a controlled listening comparison. |
| Listed weight | 68.3 lb (31 kg) | 61.3 lb (27.8 kg) | The 710 is 7 lb lighter, though both are heavy speakers. |
| Battery operation | Supports two JBL Battery 600 packs, sold separately; JBL states up to 15 hours | Battery operation is not documented on the cited product page, which specifies AC power | The 720 is the documented choice for use away from an outlet. Runtime varies with volume and audio content. |
| Speaker linking | Auracast support; JBL says multiple Auracast-enabled speakers can be linked | True Wireless Sound pairing for two PartyBox 710 units | These are different documented features; the cited pages do not establish cross-model pairing. |
| Bluetooth | Version 5.4 | Version 5.1 | A specification difference alone does not establish an audible advantage. |
| Splash rating | IPX4 | IPX4 | Both are specified as splashproof, not waterproof or submersible. |
| Inputs described by JBL | Dual XLR, microphone, guitar/line, auxiliary and USB | Microphone and guitar inputs | The 720 page explicitly lists dual XLR inputs for microphones, instruments or DJ gear. Check the regional manual for connection details. |
JBL lists the 720 at 16.38 × 37.1 × 16.0 inches and the 710 at 15.70 × 35.60 × 17.20 inches. Since their shapes differ, compare the full footprint with your vehicle or storage space rather than judging portability by height.
Does the PartyBox 720 have a battery?
Yes, with an important qualification: the 720 supports two JBL Battery 600 packs, which are sold separately. JBL states up to 15 hours of playtime, but says runtime varies with volume and audio content. Treat that as a manufacturer’s maximum-use claim, not a guaranteed runtime for every party.
The cited PartyBox 710 product page specifies AC power and does not document battery operation. If playing away from an outlet is essential, the 720 is the supported choice based on JBL’s published product information.

Can you pair a PartyBox 720 and 710 together?
The cited JBL pages describe different linking options, but do not document connecting a 720 directly to a 710. JBL describes Auracast linking for the 720 and True Wireless Sound pairing between two 710 units. Do not assume those systems are interchangeable or that mixed-model pairing will work.
If you want two 710s, JBL documents True Wireless Sound pairing for that pair. For the 720, JBL says: “We can stereo pair two 720s or wirelessly link up multiple JBL Auracast™-enabled speakers for even more sound.” Check the current instructions for the exact devices and connection method you plan to use.

Which is lighter and easier to move?
On JBL’s listed specifications, the 710 weighs 61.3 lb (27.8 kg), compared with 68.3 lb (31 kg) for the 720. That makes the 710 7 lb lighter. Both models have wheels, but neither listed weight makes them a lightweight speaker; plan for the lifting and vehicle space involved in moving either one.
Are the PartyBox 720 and 710 waterproof?
No. JBL specifies IPX4 for both models, which indicates splash resistance; it does not mean either speaker is waterproof or safe to submerge. Protect them from immersion and avoid treating the rating as protection against every outdoor condition.

Which one sounds better?
The published specifications do not establish that either model sounds better. Both have an 800 W listed output, and the 720’s 32 Hz lower frequency-response limit versus the 710’s 35 Hz is not a controlled comparison of bass quality, loudness, distortion, coverage or perceived sound. JBL’s product pages provide manufacturer specifications, not independent head-to-head listening results.
Use the specs to choose for practical needs—battery operation, weight and speaker linking—rather than assuming the figures prove a sound-quality winner. If sound is your deciding factor, listen to both under comparable conditions and with the kind of music and placement you expect to use.
