The JBL Live Beam 4 earns a place on a shortlist if you want energetic sound, a sealed in-ear fit and controls built into the charging case. In Tom’s Guide’s 25 September 2026 review, Nikita Achanta said the earbuds became their go-to pair after testing. The praise has limits: the reviewer found noise cancellation less convincing outdoors and calls less clear in noisy places.
What the JBL Live Beam 4 is
The Live Beam 4 is JBL’s stem-style, true-wireless earbud with a sealed fit and silicone eartips. It is the in-ear option in the Live 4 family, alongside the open-fit Buds and Flex styles. JBL announced the range on 12 May 2026. JBL’s launch announcement and UK product page identify the model and its features.
JBL specifies 10 mm dynamic drivers and describes the product as offering JBL Signature Sound, Hi-Res Audio and Spatial Sound. Those are manufacturer specifications and feature descriptions, not independent measurements of sound quality. Achanta’s listening impressions provide a separate, subjective view.
How it sounds in everyday listening
Achanta describes the Live Beam 4’s presentation as punchy and energetic. In the review, vocals stayed centered, bass did not swamp the midrange, and dense electronic tracks retained useful detail. That makes the sound character appealing if you like music with drive and weight while still wanting vocals to come through clearly. These are the reviewer’s impressions, not a standardized listening test.

#1 Best Overall
- Hi-Res Audio Wireless with JBL signature sound
- The JBL Live Beam 3's 10mm dynamic drivers are powered by JBL Signature Sound. Each driver is perfectly tuned to deliver deep bass, balanced mid-range, and refined high frequencies—all at any volume level. JBL Spatial Sound makes you feel like you're at a concert as the sound comes from virtually everywhere around you.
- Convenient Smart Charging Case for app-free control
- You can customize every aspect of your JBL Live Beam 3 earbuds with the 1.45-inch touchscreen display on your Smart Charging Case. The display gives you full control of your sound on any devices - laptop, TV, smartphones, or tablets -, without needing to access the JBL App on your smartphone.
- True adaptive noise cancelling with custom control
Is the touchscreen case genuinely useful?
The Smart Charging Case is more than a battery container: its display provides controls for volume, track changes, ANC or Ambient Sound, and EQ without opening the phone app. Achanta found the screen useful for making adjustments, including EQ. For quick changes while out, that can reduce dependence on a phone; it does not mean the case replaces the JBL app, which offers further settings.
According to the review, the app includes a 10-band EQ, Personi-Fi 3.0, ANC adjustment and customizable touch controls. The case is therefore most useful for immediate playback and listening-mode changes, while the app remains the place for deeper personalization.
Rank #2
- Convenient Smart Charging Case: The 1.45-inch touchscreen display on your Smart Charging Case gives you full control of your sound on any devices - laptop, TV, smartphones, or tablets without needing to access the JBL App on your smartphone.

- 6 mics for perfect calls: Six beamforming microphones reduce wind and noise interference, so your words always come through loud and clear. And you can create your own calling environment with Personal Sound Amplification’s customized ambient sound levels
- 48 hours total playback plus wireless charging: Enjoy 12 hours of playtime, plus another 36 in the charging case*. 10 minutes on a USB type-C charging cable will give you another 4 hours of playtime. You can also recharge them wirelessly. (*with ANC off)
- Multi-point connection: Switch effortlessly from one Bluetooth device to another, so if you are watching a video on your tablet, you won’t miss a call on your mobile.
Noise cancellation and calls: the main trade-offs
Achanta found ANC effective against keyboard noise and office chatter indoors. Outdoors, the reviewer reported that a rattling bus and traffic remained noticeable. If your main reason for buying earbuds is to suppress changing street or transit noise, this review suggests keeping expectations measured rather than treating the ANC as a guarantee of quiet.
JBL lists six microphones with beamforming and noise reduction, but those specifications do not ensure clear calls in every environment. Achanta found calls good without external disturbance, then less intelligible in a busy store with announcements and chatter. Frequent callers who often take meetings or calls in noisy public places should weigh that limitation carefully.

Battery, durability and connectivity
JBL rates the earbuds for up to 12 hours of playback with ANC off, with up to 36 additional hours from the case, or 48 hours total. With ANC on, JBL states up to 10 hours in the earbuds. These are manufacturer ratings; actual runtime varies with settings and use. See JBL’s specifications for the product details.
JBL lists IP55 water- and dust-resistance and Bluetooth 6.0. IP55 is a resistance rating, not a claim that the earbuds are waterproof; avoid submerging them or assuming they are suitable for every wet condition.

Price and availability depend on where you shop
JBL’s UK product page displayed a price of £149.99 and “In stock” on 4 October 2026. Tom’s Guide listed £149 at Amazon in its review published 25 September 2026, and said the model was unavailable in the US at that time. These are dated, market-specific observations, not a guaranteed current price or availability status. Check your local retailer before deciding.
For context, JBL’s 12 May 2026 launch announcement gave a UK launch price of £179.99 at jbl.com. That launch figure is not the same as the later UK listing and should not be treated as the current price.
