Choose the JBL Flip 7 if you want the smaller, lighter speaker to carry around. Choose the JBL Charge 6 if you want longer manufacturer-advertised playtime and the option to charge a phone or another device from the speaker. They serve different needs: the Flip is the more compact carry, while the Charge is larger and doubles as a power bank.

Which one should you choose?

Choose the Flip 7 for easier everyday carrying

The Flip 7 is the more compact choice based on JBL’s listed dimensions, and its product page lists a weight of 0.826 kg. JBL includes a carabiner and describes the speaker’s Pushlock carrying system, so it has a built-in way to attach or carry it. If you want a speaker that takes up less space in a bag, the Flip 7 is the better fit.

Choose the Charge 6 for longer advertised playtime and device charging

The Charge 6 is larger, but JBL advertises more maximum playtime and gives it a built-in power bank for charging other devices. That makes it the more useful option when keeping a phone charged matters as well as playing music. JBL includes a removable strap for carrying it.

How do the playtime claims compare?

JBL’s current comparison page lists maximum playtime of up to 16 hours for the Flip 7 and up to 28 hours for the Charge 6. JBL’s head-to-head article describes those totals as up to 14 hours plus two additional hours with Playtime Boost for the Flip 7, and up to 24 hours plus four with Playtime Boost for the Charge 6. The Flip 7’s product specification page separately lists 14 hours maximum music playtime.

These are JBL’s advertised maximums, not independently measured real-world battery results. The headline totals include Playtime Boost; actual playback time can vary with use, and the cited pages do not establish a comparable runtime measured under independent test conditions.

Does the Charge 6 sound better?

The published material establishes specifications and JBL’s product positioning, but it does not establish an independent listening-test winner between these two models. JBL describes the speakers in promotional terms, which should not be treated as comparative test findings. The clearest choice supported by the listed information is based on size, advertised playtime, and whether you need the Charge 6’s power-bank function.

Wattage alone is not a reliable way to decide which will sound louder: JBL notes on its comparison page that a 100 W speaker will not be twice as loud as a 50 W speaker. The Flip 7 product page lists a 25 W RMS woofer and 10 W RMS tweeter, but those figures do not by themselves establish a listening advantage over the Charge 6.

Are both speakers waterproof?

JBL’s Flip 7 product page lists an IP68 rating, and JBL’s 2025 launch announcement describes both the Flip 7 and Charge 6 as IP68. However, JBL’s UK comparison article says IP67 for both, so JBL’s official materials are inconsistent. The model-specific product and launch statements support IP68, but the discrepancy is worth noting rather than presenting every JBL page as if it agrees.

In its launch announcement, JBL describes water submersion protection of up to 1.5 meters in freshwater for up to 30 minutes, and drop protection from up to 1 meter onto concrete. These are JBL’s stated conditions, not independent durability test results.

Can they connect to other JBL speakers?

Both current models support Auracast. To use that feature with another speaker, the other device must support Auracast; this does not mean the Flip 7 or Charge 6 will pair with every older JBL speaker. Check the connection technology supported by the specific speaker you want to use.

What should you buy?

For a compact speaker that is easier to carry, choose the Flip 7. For longer manufacturer-advertised playback and the practical extra of charging another device, choose the Charge 6. JBL’s historical UK launch announcement listed prices of £129.99 for the Flip 7 and £169.99 for the Charge 6, with availability from April 1, 2025; those are launch-era UK prices, not verified current prices.
