The original Jabra Elite 8 Active is built around workout-friendly stability and highly rated dust and water protection: Jabra specifies IP68 for the earbuds, but only IP54 for the charging case. Jabra estimates up to 32 hours of battery life with ANC enabled or up to 56 hours with ANC off. Those specifications make it a compelling option to consider for exercise, but the available independent evidence here does not establish a full verdict on sound, fit, or noise cancellation.
What the original Elite 8 Active offers
This review covers the original Jabra Elite 8 Active, not the Elite 8 Active Gen 2. Jabra announced the second generation on June 11, 2024; listings and comparisons should identify the generation because they are different products. Jabra’s Gen 2 announcement.
The original’s official feature set includes Adaptive Hybrid ANC, ShakeGrip for a secure fit, spatial sound powered by Dolby Audio, and six-microphone call technology, according to Jabra’s technical sheet. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent findings about how well each feature performs in every situation.
Are they suitable for running and workouts?
Jabra positions the Elite 8 Active for active use and names its grip feature ShakeGrip. RTINGS describes the earbuds as durable, but the available independent evidence does not establish detailed fit or stability test results for running, sweaty workouts, or different ear shapes. A secure fit is personal, so consider whether you can return them if they do not stay comfortable and stable for you.

Jabra’s 2023 product announcement says the earbuds were tested to a military standard for ruggedized electronics. The surfaced information does not provide the test protocol or an independent test report, so that claim should not be treated as a guarantee of performance under every impact or environmental condition.
How water-resistant are the earbuds and case?
The distinction matters: Jabra specifies an IP68 rating for the earbuds and IP54 for the charging case. The case does not share the earbuds’ IP68 rating. Jabra’s product page and its 2023 technical sheet list these ratings separately.

Battery life and noise cancellation
Jabra estimates up to 32 hours with ANC on and up to 56 hours with ANC off. These are manufacturer estimates, not independently measured results in the available evidence; actual runtime can vary with use and settings. See Jabra’s product page for the stated figures.

SoundGuys reports testing the earbuds over one week and notes an ANC-related firmware improvement dated March 26, 2024. Jabra’s support page describes that update as improving call-microphone noise cancellation and wind-noise reduction in ANC and HearThrough modes. This establishes a documented change on that date, not the current firmware version or a complete independent assessment of ANC performance.
Calls and everyday listening
Jabra lists six-microphone call technology as an official feature. RTINGS characterizes microphone performance as satisfactory, which is a restrained positive sign for calls, but does not establish how it will sound in every noisy or windy setting. The available evidence does not support a detailed judgment of overall sound quality, comfort, or ANC effectiveness, so treat those as areas to check against your own listening needs rather than assumed strengths.

Original Elite 8 Active vs. Gen 2
Jabra announced Elite 8 Active Gen 2 in June 2024. The available information confirms the new generation exists, but does not provide a complete head-to-head comparison or establish which is the better buy. When comparing a listing for either generation, check the exact model name and compare the features and practical factors that matter to you:
- Exercise fit and stability for your ears and activities.
- Earbud and case dust- and water-resistance ratings separately.
- ANC performance in noisy and windy conditions.
- Real-world battery life and call clarity.
- Comfort and current price in your region.
Should you buy the original Jabra Elite 8 Active?
Consider the original if you want workout-oriented earbuds and value an IP68-rated earbud design, while recognizing that the case is IP54. Its official battery estimates and feature list are useful starting points, but the available independent evidence is too limited to make a comprehensive claim about running fit, sound, or ANC. Check that a listing is for the original rather than Gen 2, and verify current regional stock, price, and firmware details before buying.
