iTunes 12.13.3 is a Windows release Apple dates to September 12, 2024. Apple lists it for Windows 10 and later and documents two security fixes: one in iTunes and one in Video Playback. The release date is not the same as the date Apple published its security notice, October 7, 2024.
What is iTunes 12.13.3?
iTunes 12.13.3 is a version of iTunes for Windows. Apple’s security notice identifies the release as September 12, 2024, and lists Windows 10 and later as the supported Windows range for the issues addressed in this version. Apple’s security article was published and its entry added on October 7, 2024; that is the notice date, not the release date. Apple’s iTunes 12.13.3 security notice is the primary source for these details.

What changed in iTunes 12.13.3?
Apple’s notice describes two security issues fixed in this release. The affected components and reported impacts differ:
- iTunes (CVE-2024-44193): A logic issue could allow a local attacker to elevate privileges. Apple says it was addressed with improved restrictions. Apple credits Mads Ball and Bocheng Xiang of Fudan University.
- Video Playback (CVE-2024-44157): Parsing a maliciously crafted video file could cause unexpected system termination. Apple describes the cause as a stack buffer overflow and says it was addressed with improved input validation. Apple credits Willy R. Vasquez of The University of Texas at Austin and Srikanth Narayanaraju.
These are the security issues Apple lists for 12.13.3; the notice does not describe a broader feature change.

Does iTunes 12.13.3 work on Windows 10?
Yes. Apple lists Windows 10 and later for the iTunes 12.13.3 security entries. That establishes the Windows floor stated in this notice, but it is not a complete hardware or software requirements list for every installation scenario.
Do not use Apple’s separate requirements page for iTunes 12.10.11 as the requirements for 12.13.3. That older-version page discusses 64-bit Windows and syncing devices on Windows 7 and Windows 8; those details apply to 12.10.11, not this release. Apple’s iTunes 12.10.11 page identifies that different version.

Is iTunes 12.13.3 safe?
Apple documents fixes for the two issues above, but no software version can be described as completely safe on that basis alone. If you are using iTunes on Windows, keep the software and Windows updated, and avoid opening video files from sources you do not trust. Apple’s notice is specific to the vulnerabilities it lists; it does not establish that 12.13.3 is the latest version today.

Apple’s security notice confirms the release and its Windows compatibility, but it is not a current download guide and does not establish whether 12.13.3 remains the latest or currently offered installer. Check Apple’s current iTunes distribution guidance before downloading, and use an official Apple source rather than an unverified installer site.
