If a tiny camera with a real viewfinder, tactile controls and a deliberately playful feel sounds irresistible, the Fujifilm instax Pal 2 could be a lot of fun. But it does not print photos on its own: you need a compatible instax Link printer or hybrid camera, plus film, to get physical prints. Buy it for pocketability and the experience of shooting—not as a stand-alone instant camera.
What makes the instax Pal 2 fun?
The Pal 2 is a small digital camera designed to make taking pictures feel playful. Unlike many pocket cameras, it has an optical viewfinder as well as a 1.30-inch screen on top, so you can frame a shot with your eye or check the display. Its tactile controls, effects and compact form encourage spontaneous snapshots rather than a phone-like, all-purpose camera workflow.

Fujifilm’s September 14, 2026 launch announcement says the company gathered customer feedback while designing the Pal 2. That describes the maker’s development process; it is not evidence that every owner prefers the new model or that it is objectively the most fun camera.
Does it print photos by itself?
No. The Pal 2 captures digital images and sends them to a compatible instax Link printer or hybrid camera for printing. Fujifilm lists models including the mini Link series, SQUARE Link, Link WIDE series, mini Evo, mini LiPlay and WIDE Evo; check Fujifilm’s current compatibility information before buying a specific pairing.

You can use images in instax mini, SQUARE or WIDE formats, or save them as 4:3 files without a frame. A physical print depends on using a printer or hybrid camera that supports the format you choose. Film is a separate consumable, and its format must match the printing device.
What do you get for the price?
Fujifilm Canada lists a 1/3.06-inch CMOS sensor, a fixed 28 mm-equivalent lens with no zoom, Bluetooth 5.3 Low Energy and USB Type-C. High-quality image capture is 3776 × 2832 pixels; a low-quality mode captures at 1280 × 960 pixels. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent image-quality test results.

The camera stores approximately 100 images internally, according to Fujifilm Canada. It also supports microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC cards up to 2 TB. The top-mounted TFT LCD measures 1.30 inches and has approximately 170,000 dots. Fujifilm lists an internal lithium-ion battery and an approximate charging time of two to three hours.
Fujifilm’s UK eShop lists the camera, a USB charging cable and an instruction manual in the box. Package contents can vary by market or offer, so confirm what is included with your local seller.

What are the tradeoffs?
The tiny size is the point, but it also means this is a deliberately limited camera: the lens is fixed, there is no zoom, and printing requires another device. If you already own a compatible printer, the Pal 2’s appeal is easier to justify. If you do not, include the printer and ongoing film in your decision rather than comparing only the camera’s price.
Reviews describe different experiences with responsiveness. TechRadar found the tactile controls fun but reported shutter lag that caused missed moments during its use; Tom’s Guide described responsive controls in its testing. Treat the lag as one reviewer’s reported experience, not a guaranteed defect. Check current local pricing as well: TechRadar considered the Pal 2 expensive and said it cost the same as the Mini Evo in its market at review time, but that comparison is not a current or universal price quote.

The comparison is about the different experiences, not a guarantee of current value: prices and availability depend on your location and when you shop. If instant prints matter more than carrying the smallest possible camera, the Mini Evo is the more direct alternative to consider. If the Pal 2’s size and playful controls are what you want, make sure its separate printing setup still fits your budget.
