Short answer: Sober can run Roblox on Linux, but it is an unofficial, closed-source, experimental client, so neither account safety nor continued access is guaranteed. Sober’s developers say ordinary intended use is very rarely moderated; that is their claim, not a Roblox guarantee. Consider the trade-offs before signing in, especially if your account is valuable or sensitive.
What Sober is—and what it is not
Sober is an unofficial Linux runtime that runs the Android version of Roblox in a specialized environment and bridges it to Linux. It is not Roblox’s Linux client and is not the same as running Roblox’s Windows client through Wine. The Sober project site describes it as experimental, closed-source and unsupported by Roblox; it also says the project may be discontinued. Flathub likewise says Sober is not affiliated with Roblox and labels it a research project to use at your own risk: Flathub listing.
That distinction matters: using Sober means relying on a third-party client and runtime, not a Linux option supported by Roblox. A Roblox Developer Forum result surfaced in research says Roblox does not officially support Linux while not intentionally seeking to break Linux, but that statement does not endorse Sober or promise it will work. See the Roblox Developer Forum discussion for context.
Can you get banned for using Sober?
No source establishes a guarantee that a Sober user’s account is safe from moderation. Sober’s FAQ says users are very rarely moderated for ordinary intended use, but that is the maintainers’ characterization—not a Roblox promise. The same FAQ states, “Roblox may choose to prevent Sober clients from using their services at any time.” Read the Sober FAQ as the project’s account of its own software, not as Roblox policy.

If losing access to your Roblox account would have serious consequences, the uncertainty is the key consideration. Sober’s maintainers describe ordinary intended use as rarely moderated, but Roblox can still block the client from its services, and Sober is unsupported. The available information does not provide an independently verified ban rate or an account-safety guarantee.
Can anti-cheat or integrity checks stop Sober?
Yes. Some experiences can use Android Remote Attestation (ARA) checks that prevent Sober from accessing them. Sober’s troubleshooting page documents this limitation and says the affected-game status it listed was current as of 2026-08-20, when ARA was disabled for those examples. The page warns, “Do note that ARA may be re-enabled for these games at any time without notice.” A game that works now may therefore stop working later.

Do not try to bypass an attestation check. The project warns that doing so could risk violating Roblox or Google terms and could put Sober at risk of a Roblox ban. If an experience blocks access, treat that as a compatibility limit rather than an invitation to evade its check.
What privacy and account-access risks should you consider?
Flathub says Sober disables ads and telemetry by default. That is useful disclosure, but it is not an independent privacy audit. Sober is closed-source, and the published materials reviewed do not establish that an outside party has verified what data the software handles.

The project’s configuration reference documents two optional Discord Rich Presence settings, both off by default: one can share the current game with Discord, and another can allow contacts to join from a profile. It also describes experimental use of libsecret for session-cookie storage, disabled by default. These are documented options, not evidence of a full privacy assessment. Review the current configuration before enabling any sharing or cookie-storage feature.
A session cookie is sensitive because it can be used to access an account session. The documented experimental storage option is not enabled by default, but anyone considering it should understand what it stores and where it is stored; do not share a session cookie with anyone.

Will Sober work on your Linux computer?
The Sober installation page lists these minimum requirements:
- Linux kernel 5.11 or newer
- x86-64/AMD64 processor with SSE4.1
- OpenGL ES 3.0
The project recommends SSE4.2 and Vulkan 1.1, and lists ARM as unsupported. Requirements and experience compatibility can change, so check the live installation page before installing.

Which version is current?
On 2026-10-05, Flathub listed Sober version 1.8.0 and Roblox 2.741.1061. Those are time-sensitive listing details, not enduring compatibility guarantees; check the live Flathub page for the current package information. The project distributes Sober through Flathub.
Should you use Sober?
The decision depends on how much uncertainty you are willing to accept. Sober may be a practical way to try Roblox on compatible Linux hardware, but it remains unofficial, closed-source and experimental. Roblox may restrict service access, individual games can be blocked by attestation checks, and the available privacy disclosures are not an independent audit.
Quick Recap
- Consider trying it if you understand those limits, your hardware meets the published requirements, and you are comfortable relying on an unsupported client.
- Avoid it if you need a Roblox-supported Linux client, cannot tolerate account or service-access uncertainty, or require independently audited privacy assurances.
