Yes, with a qualification: SHUTEN ORDER is a good fit if you enjoy a central murder mystery unfolding through several different adventure genres. Its Ministry of Justice route is the clearest match for a conventional detective game, but the other four routes switch to stealth horror, visual-novel, romance, and escape-adventure play. If you want one sustained, mechanically deep investigation from start to finish, the genre changes may be a drawback.
What kind of game is SHUTEN ORDER?
SHUTEN ORDER begins with the murder of the Founder of the Shuten Order, an apocalyptic religious organization. The Founder returns as Rei Shimobe with lost memories and four days to identify and kill the murderer in order to achieve true resurrection. Five ministers are suspects, and each has a route to investigate.

Spike Chunsoft says choosing a suspect changes both the story and the game system. You can pursue the routes in your chosen order, but completing all five unlocks the final chapter, which brings the broader story toward its conclusion. The Ministry of Justice route is the strongest fit for players looking specifically for investigation. You interview people, examine crime scenes, scrutinize suspicious statements and objects using the “Snapping” feature, and discuss evidence as you work to solve a family murder. These are the game’s most direct detective-game mechanics.

Who is likely to enjoy it?
It may suit you if you like mysteries that build across routes
The appeal is not limited to solving one case with one set of tools. Each route offers another perspective on the suspects and the world, and the broader mystery gains meaning as those stories connect. GamesRadar’s review found the cross-genre idea most engaging when clues and the overarching mystery linked the separate routes. That makes SHUTEN ORDER a better match for players who enjoy branching narratives and piecing together a larger truth than for players who expect a single, uninterrupted detective campaign.

Only the Justice route is presented as a straightforward mystery investigation. GamesRadar praised that route’s murder case and clue-based deductions, but characterized the deductions as relatively forgiving. The reviewer also found the experience somewhat splintered: individual routes did not develop their respective genres deeply, and the game could be difficult to recommend to newcomers. That is one critic’s response, not a consensus about every player’s experience, but it is a useful warning if sustained investigative challenge is your priority.

Consider the tone before playing
Steam’s content notice lists blood, graphic violence, coarse language, and drug usage. Those elements matter alongside the genre mix if you are choosing the game for yourself or someone else.
What do reviews and playtime suggest?
In GamesRadar’s review, the reviewer reported spending about five hours on each route and about 30 hours reaching the proper ending. Treat those figures as one person’s playthrough, not a standardized completion-time estimate; pace and play style can differ.

Steam’s snapshot accessed October 4, 2026 showed 79% positive from 723 all-time user reviews. Recent reviews were 70% positive from 31 reviews in the last 30 days at that access time. These are changing Steam figures, and the recent sample is small, so they should be read as a snapshot rather than a settled measure of how all mystery fans will respond.
Platforms, language, and PC requirements
Spike Chunsoft lists SHUTEN ORDER for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam, with the original release dated September 5, 2025. Its page lists a physical release for April 23, 2026. Check the publisher’s listing for the territory and edition you intend to buy: listed language support differs by platform. Switch is listed with Japanese voice and English text; Steam lists Japanese voice and Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese text. The publisher’s page also describes a digital deluxe edition that includes a visual art book and mini soundtrack; it says those items are not sold individually. For the Steam version, the listing gives Windows 11, 16 GB RAM, DirectX 12, 15 GB storage, an Intel Core i5-1345U, and Intel Iris Xe graphics among its minimum requirements. Verdict: Is it a good fit for mystery-adventure fans?
SHUTEN ORDER is worth considering if you like a murder mystery that unfolds across connected routes and are open to switching genres along the way. The Justice route offers the clearest detective-game experience; the other four broaden the story through very different kinds of adventure. Choose it for that variety and the route-to-route mystery, rather than expecting every chapter to deliver the same depth or style of investigation.
