No Android Nintendogs game has been confirmed. The rumor stems from January 2023 coverage of a Nintendo patent that reporters thought might relate to a mobile augmented-reality pet game. The patent and its illustrations do not establish that Nintendo is making or releasing an Android version. Meanwhile, Nintendogs + Cats already offered a form of augmented-reality play on Nintendo 3DS.
Why did people think Nintendogs might be coming to Android?
In January 2023, reports connected Nintendo patent US 11,557,103 with the possibility of a mobile Nintendogs-like AR game. The patent was reported as published on January 17, 2023, and attributed to Nintendo Co., Ltd. The Android connection came from interpreting patent material and illustrations—not from a Nintendo product announcement or a confirmed game listing.

iPhone in Canada’s January 19, 2023 report discussed the possibility of a Nintendogs-style game on iOS and Android. Nintendo Life’s report from the same day likewise treated mobile Nintendogs as a possibility, while cautioning that the patent did not say the technology was intended only for smart devices.
Was an Android Nintendogs game announced?
No announcement, Android release date, or Google Play listing is established by the reports cited above. A patent describes protected or proposed technology; publication of one does not by itself show that a company has decided to build a consumer product, what form it would take, or when it might appear. The patent’s current prosecution or commercial status is not established by these sources.

So the accurate answer to “Is Nintendogs coming to Android?” is that the idea was reported as a possibility based on patent material, but an Android game is not confirmed by the available evidence. The patent illustrations should not be treated as proof of a release.
Has Nintendogs used augmented reality before?
Yes. Nintendogs + Cats for Nintendo 3DS included an AR Card feature: players could use the handheld’s camera and cards to make a virtual puppy or kitten appear in a view of their surroundings and take photos. Nintendo documents this feature in its Nintendogs + Cats product material. Nintendo’s Iwata Asks interview about the game offers further background on its development.

That 3DS feature is a real example of Nintendogs-style AR, but it is not an Android game or evidence that one is in development. The platform and evidence are different: the 3DS AR-card mode is documented as part of a released game, whereas the phone-game idea comes from reporting about a patent.

For a documented series release, Nintendogs + Cats is the Nintendo 3DS title with the AR-card mode. Nintendo UK also lists Nintendogs Dalmatian & Friends as a Nintendo DS game-card title on its product page. These are legacy handheld games, not Android releases; check current stock, condition, and regional compatibility before buying.
