The “Stranger Things movie” in this headline is a behind-the-scenes documentary, not a newly announced scripted sequel. Netflix lists One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5 as a documentary released January 12, 2026.
What is the Stranger Things movie Netflix announced?
Netflix’s announcement is for One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, a documentary about producing the show’s final season. Netflix describes it as “a sweeping behind-the-scenes chronicle” following the cast, creators, and crew as they make the season and say goodbye to the series. Netflix’s listing names Martina Radwan as director and MakeMake as the production company.
That is different from a feature film continuing the fictional story. The cited announcement does not establish that Netflix announced a scripted Stranger Things movie.
When did the documentary come out, and where can you watch it?
Netflix lists January 12, 2026, as the documentary’s release date. It is a Netflix release; availability in a particular country can depend on that country’s catalog. Check the title’s Netflix listing in your region for current streaming availability.

- In 1980s Indiana a group of friends witness supernatural forces and government exploits. In searching for answers, they unravel a series of mysteries.
How does it relate to the series finale?
Netflix’s final-season guide, dated January 1, 2026, said the finale and all other episodes were then streaming. The guide also noted finale fan events in select theaters on December 31 and January 1. Those screenings were for the series finale—not evidence of a separate narrative feature film. Netflix’s final-season guide distinguishes the episodes and related events from the later making-of documentary.
The sequence is therefore straightforward: the series reached its finale, some theaters hosted finale fan events, and Netflix’s documentary about making the final season followed on January 12.
