Yes—Metro Redux is worth playing if you want two atmospheric, story-led survival shooters and are comfortable with older games. It includes Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux, set in a post-apocalyptic Moscow where ammunition and other resources matter. If you already own the games, PLAION says the announced console upgrade will be free; as of October 4, 2026, its scheduled release date is still in the future.
What you get in Metro Redux
Metro Redux brings together two games. In Metro 2033 Redux, Artyom tries to survive in the post-apocalyptic Moscow Metro. Metro: Last Light Redux is the sequel, with dangers both inside the underground stations and beyond them. The Xbox Store lists the two titles together in the Metro Redux Bundle. The official listings describe resource-conscious combat and two ways to play. These are publisher descriptions, not independent assessments of how well the games have aged.
Survival and Spartan styles
Choose Survival for a slower, resource-aware approach with more emphasis on survival horror. Spartan is designed for a more combat-focused experience. The choice lets you tune the pace and pressure without changing which game you are playing.

Ranger Mode
For a tougher run, the listings describe Ranger Mode as removing HUD and UI elements while making combat deadlier and resources limited. That combination leaves less on-screen guidance and less room for mistakes.
Will it run on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S?
The Xbox Store listings name Xbox Series X|S as a playable platform. PLAION’s official support FAQ identifies PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as platforms for the announced console upgrade. The sources do not establish exact resolution, frame rate, loading times, or performance parity between the consoles, so there is no evidence here to declare a console winner.

Should you play now or wait for the console upgrade?
PLAION scheduled the free console upgrade for October 29, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with Japan scheduled for November. That date is after October 4, 2026, so the upgrade should be treated as announced, not available, as of that date. Check PLAION’s official Redux next-gen FAQ for current status before deciding.

PLAION says existing owners will receive the upgrade free. If you want to start now, the announcement does not make waiting necessary to access the games; the Xbox listings show them as playable on Xbox Series X|S. If you would rather begin with the announced console changes, wait until release and confirm the update is live for your region.

If you have not bought the games
PLAION’s FAQ says new purchasers will receive the upgrade automatically. Check your regional store for current availability and purchase details rather than relying on old prices or search snippets.

PLAION calls the update a quality-of-life upgrade, not a remaster or remake. Its FAQ answers a question about ray tracing with: “No, this is a much larger job that would require a deeper reworking of our render.” The FAQ says ray tracing is not included. No specific visual or performance uplift is established beyond the publisher’s stated upgrade scope, and no measured post-release console results are available in the information dated October 4, 2026.

Who should play Metro Redux?
- Play it if you want two connected, story-led shooters with a bleak post-apocalyptic setting and combat shaped by scarce resources.
- Try Survival if you prefer a slower, more survival-horror-oriented pace; choose Spartan for a more combat-focused style.
- Choose Ranger Mode if you want the added pressure of no HUD/UI, deadlier combat, and limited resources.
- Wait for the announced upgrade if you would rather start after its scheduled release and want the publisher’s promised quality-of-life changes.
- Look elsewhere if you need a new release or want confirmed console-specific performance figures before buying.
