There is no evidence that GTA 6 will be the last blockbuster made without generative AI. The narrower, reported claim is that Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said in February 2026 that generative AI had “zero part” in what Rockstar was building for the game. That is a statement about GTA 6, not a forecast about the industry or proof that every AI-related technique is absent from its development.
What Take-Two said about AI in GTA 6
On February 4, 2026, GameSpot reported Zelnick saying: “Generative AI has zero part in what Rockstar Games is building.” He also described Rockstar’s worlds as built “from the ground up, building by building, street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood.” These are executive statements reported by GameSpot, not an independently audited account of the game’s production process. The wording matters: Zelnick was talking specifically about generative AI. It does not establish that no AI-adjacent methods, machine-learning systems, or automated tools of any kind are involved in development.
Why that does not mean Take-Two avoids AI
In the same report, Zelnick said Take-Two uses AI and machine learning more broadly, including generative AI tools, and cited “hundreds of pilots and implementations,” including at studios. That is a company-level description; it does not show that every tool is used on GTA 6. The two claims can therefore coexist: Take-Two may use AI across its business while its CEO says generative AI has no part in building this particular game.

Does this make GTA 6 the last blockbuster without AI?
No. The claim that GTA 6 may be the last blockbuster built without AI is speculation, not an established conclusion. The cited reports provide no industry-wide measurement of generative AI use in blockbuster production, no count of upcoming major games that will use it, and no evidence that GTA 6 is the final title in a category.
In a May 18, 2026 report, PC Gamer quoted Zelnick arguing that AI could speed up asset creation but that making a hit takes more than creating assets. He also said that “datasets by their very nature are backward looking, creativity by its very nature is forward looking.” Those are his opinions about AI and creativity, not independent evidence that AI cannot contribute to a successful game. What this means if you are waiting for GTA 6
Rockstar Games and Take-Two announced pre-orders on June 24, 2026, with GTA 6 scheduled to launch November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The announcement said the boxed version would contain a download code; it did not describe a disc edition. The game was still upcoming as of that announcement. See the official announcement.
