Their access requirements differ, so a fix for one may not apply to another. Google’s help pages do not establish that Gemini is experiencing a service-wide outage when you see an error; first check the affected product and its specific requirements.
First, pinpoint what is not working
Note the product you are using, the exact error message, and whether Gemini opens but fails to answer or will not load at all. If possible, try a new chat to see whether the problem is limited to one conversation. Messages such as “Something went wrong” or “Check your internet connection and try again” describe what a user sees; by themselves, they do not confirm that the connection or Google’s service is the cause.
- Gemini web app: You use it at gemini.google.com in a browser.
- Gemini mobile app: The issue occurs in the app on a phone or tablet.
- Gemini in Chrome: The feature appears in Chrome’s side panel or floating chat. It has separate availability and setup requirements.
If the Gemini web app will not load or respond
Check your browser
Google says gemini.google.com requires a supported browser: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Opera, or Edgium. Update your browser if it is out of date, then reload the page and try again. This browser list is for using Gemini Apps on a computer; it does not guarantee that every feature is available in every browser. See Google’s computer guidance for Gemini Apps.
Check whether the failure is limited to one chat
If Gemini opens but does not answer in an existing conversation, start a new chat and test again. Record whether the new chat works and keep the exact error message. This helps distinguish a chat-specific problem from a broader access or loading issue, but it does not by itself identify the cause.

If Gemini in Chrome is missing or unavailable
Gemini in Chrome is a separate feature from the Gemini web app. Google says it is rolling out, so it may not yet be available in your country or territory. Access also depends on a supported region, eligible computer and language settings, a current version of Chrome, and a signed-in Chrome profile. It is not available in Incognito mode.
- Make sure you are using a supported setup and a signed-in Chrome profile, not an Incognito window.
- Restart Chrome and install any available Chrome update.
- Turn off a VPN temporarily and reload the Gemini side panel or floating chat.
- If you use a virtual machine, check whether that environment affects availability.
- If Chrome is managed by an organization, ask its administrator whether the feature is restricted.
These checks apply to Gemini in Chrome, not necessarily to gemini.google.com or the mobile app. Google’s Gemini in Chrome help page lists its rollout, requirements, and troubleshooting guidance.

If the Gemini mobile app shows an error on a work or school account
For a managed Google account, access may depend on your organization’s settings. Google’s guidance is to update the Gemini app and ask your Workspace administrator to confirm that Gemini Apps access is enabled for your account. See Google’s work or school account guidance.
Report a problem to Google
If the issue continues, use Gemini’s in-product feedback option to report the problem. Before submitting, review what will be included: Google says feedback may collect the associated conversation, including prompts and responses, as well as files, images, or relevant connected-app content included with the report. Check any attached or connected content before sending it. Details and reporting guidance are on Google’s feedback and problem-reporting page.

When contacting Google or your organization’s administrator, provide details that help narrow down the affected product and access conditions:
- Whether the problem is in the web app, mobile app, or Gemini in Chrome.
- The exact error message and whether Gemini loads before the error appears.
- Whether a new chat has the same problem.
- Your browser or app version, and whether the account is personal or managed by work or school.
- For Gemini in Chrome, whether you are in Incognito mode, using a VPN or virtual machine, or signed into a managed Chrome profile.
Google’s help pages do not establish the cause of an individual failure or confirm a live service-wide outage. A community post can show that other people have reported similar wording, but anecdotal reports are not proof of an outage or a reliable diagnosis.
