The 2025 offer that gave some students a free year of Google AI Pro with Gemini 2.5 Pro access has expired: new signups had to be completed by October 6, 2025. As of October 8, 2026, Google advertises a different one-year student offer, with Google AI Pro for eligible U.S. college students and Google AI Plus for eligible students in covered markets elsewhere. Redeem the current offer by December 31, 2026, and check the terms for your location before signing up.
What changed from the Gemini 2.5 Pro student offer?
Google announced its original student promotion on August 6, 2025. Eligible students in the United States, Japan, Indonesia, Korea, and Brazil could get 12 months of Google AI Pro, including expanded access to Gemini 2.5 Pro. The signup deadline was October 6, 2025, so that promotion is closed to new signups. Google’s 2025 announcement also listed Deep Research, NotebookLM, Veo 3, higher Jules limits, and 2 TB of storage as part of that offer. Those are historical details, not guaranteed features of the current student promotion. Google’s 2025 offer announcement
The newer promotion is described as a free year of a Google AI plan for eligible college students. Its plan name and benefits depend on where the student lives. It should not be read as a new promise that Gemini 2.5 Pro itself is free to every student. Google’s 2026 announcement
What does the current student offer include?
Google lists different plans for the U.S. and covered markets outside it. The feature and price details below are from Google’s August 19, 2026 announcement; availability and terms can vary by country.

What study tools does Google describe?
Google says the student hub brings together student tools and offers, including study notebooks, flashcards, and practice quizzes. Its study notebooks can use uploaded course materials, such as lecture notes, to create a learning plan, diagnostic quiz, tailored lessons and quizzes, and a progress dashboard. Google notes that some features have usage limits and that availability can vary by account type and age requirements. These are descriptions of product features, not evidence that they improve grades or learning outcomes. Google’s 2026 announcement
What happens when the free year ends?
Unless you cancel earlier, the subscription automatically renews after the free period at the applicable monthly price. Google’s announcement lists $19.99 per month for U.S. Google AI Pro and $4.99 per month, or local currency equivalent, for Google AI Plus. A valid payment method is required at signup. Is the student offer the same as Gemini for Education?
No. Google for Education separately announced that Gemini for Education gave students of all ages and educators significantly higher Gemini 2.5 Pro limits at no charge. That is an education-product offering, distinct from the consumer Google AI subscription promotion for eligible college students. Google for Education’s announcement
