Sometimes. Microsoft 365 Personal includes Copilot, and Microsoft 365 Family and Premium include it for the subscription owner—not for other household members. For work or school accounts, eligible Microsoft 365 subscriptions include Copilot Chat, but the fuller work-grounded Copilot in Outlook requires an assigned Microsoft 365 Copilot license or an eligible bundle. The account signed in to Outlook and its license determine what you can use.

Microsoft’s plan names and bundles can change, and business availability and pricing may vary by region and billing term. Check the current plan details before buying rather than assuming every Microsoft 365 subscription includes the same Copilot features.
What is the difference between Copilot Chat and full Microsoft 365 Copilot at work?
Copilot Chat is the baseline chat experience available with eligible organizational subscriptions. The separate Microsoft 365 Copilot license adds the fuller experience grounded in a user’s work context and integrated with Microsoft 365 apps such as Outlook. Microsoft distinguishes these entitlements in its licensing documentation and Copilot overview and pricing information.
In Outlook, Microsoft’s described Copilot tasks include drafting email, summarizing email threads, and coaching on clarity, sentiment, and tone. The exact app experience can vary with the assigned license and an organization’s configuration. Microsoft’s Outlook Copilot guidance

Why don’t I see Copilot in Outlook if I pay for Microsoft 365?
- You’re signed in with a different account. Outlook may be using a personal account when the entitlement belongs to your work account, or the reverse. Confirm the account shown in Outlook before checking the plan.
- You’re a Family or Premium member, not the owner. Microsoft says the subscription owner’s listed AI features are not shared with other family members. Subscription-sharing FAQ
- Your workplace has not assigned the Copilot license. An eligible base subscription or access to Copilot Chat does not by itself confirm you have the full Microsoft 365 Copilot license for Outlook.
- Connected Experiences are disabled, or age requirements apply. Microsoft identifies app settings and eligibility, including age conditions, as factors that can affect access. Microsoft guidance on Copilot availability in Microsoft 365 apps
- You’re using classic Outlook for Windows. Microsoft’s Outlook account-sharing feature is not available in classic Outlook for Windows. Check Microsoft’s Outlook sharing guidance for the feature and experience covered.
How to check your access and troubleshoot
- Confirm the account in Outlook. Check whether Outlook is signed in with the personal, work, or school account that holds the subscription or license.
- Check who owns a Family or Premium subscription. If you are not the subscription owner, sharing the plan does not share the listed AI app features with you.
- For a work or school account, ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to check your assigned licenses. Ask specifically whether Microsoft 365 Copilot is assigned, rather than checking only for an eligible base plan or Copilot Chat.
- Review Connected Experiences and applicable age eligibility. Confirm the relevant Microsoft 365 app settings are enabled and that the account meets Microsoft’s requirements.
- Identify your Outlook version. If you use classic Outlook for Windows, check whether the feature you expect is supported there; Microsoft’s account-sharing guidance explicitly excludes that version for the sharing feature.
- For business licensing questions, use Microsoft’s Copilot License Details diagnostic. Microsoft recommends this diagnostic to verify account requirements. Microsoft 365 Copilot licensing and diagnostic guidance
