Yes. BrokenLore: MIKI-CHAN is part of the same connected universe as the other BrokenLore games, but the developer says each game is designed to stand on its own. You do not need to play the earlier entries first. If you want a release-order guide, start with LOW; just remember that release order is not a complete story chronology—FOLLOW, for example, is explicitly a prequel to UNFOLLOW.

How MIKI-CHAN connects to the series

BrokenLore is an interconnected narrative universe, not a single story that must be followed in strict release order. Serafini Productions founder and CEO Sebastiano Serafini described the approach to Xbox Wire as “a fragmented story”: each game can stand alone, while players who look deeper can connect details across the entries. The studio uses the games to explore different social issues from different perspectives.

MIKI-CHAN continues that approach. The character Miki-chan already appears in DON’T LIE; in the upcoming game, she is the virtual assistant at the center of the story. The Epic Games Store listing also describes MIKI-CHAN as revealing another piece of the mystery surrounding BrokenLore and Elysium. Those connections reward familiarity with the series, but the developer’s stated standalone design means they are not a prerequisite for understanding this game.

What MIKI-CHAN is about

Steam describes BrokenLore: MIKI-CHAN as a first-person psychological horror game. Its protagonist, Kazuaki, is a Japanese student hoping to pass the Teidai entrance exam and win over the girl he loves. After finding a USB drive containing a study-support program, he meets Miki-chan, a virtual assistant who becomes jealous and possessive.

According to the Epic Games Store listing, Miki-chan takes control of a simulation and traps Kazuaki in unstable school environments. He uses a tool called the Rewriter to alter parts of those environments, defend himself, and solve puzzles.

BrokenLore games in release order

This is a practical release-order guide, not a confirmed chronology of the stories. Dates below follow the cited developer, publisher, or store announcement; regional dates can differ.

Release order Game Release timing Story-order note
1 BrokenLore: LOW February 20, 2025, Pacific time; the developer announcement gave February 21 in Japan Standard Time. The developer called it the first chapter.
2 BrokenLore: DON’T WATCH Announced for March 20, 2025. No broader chronology is established by the cited announcement.
3 BrokenLore: UNFOLLOW Released January 16, 2026, according to the publisher announcement. FOLLOW is later in release order but is described as its prequel.
4 BrokenLore: FOLLOW Steam lists May 31, 2026. Steam explicitly calls it a prequel to UNFOLLOW.
5 BrokenLore: DON’T LIE Wired Productions announced it out on September 10, 2026. No complete position in an overall story chronology is established.
6 BrokenLore: MIKI-CHAN Upcoming. Steam currently lists the date as “To be announced”; October 2026 announcement coverage reported a 2027 window. No source establishes that it must be played after a particular entry.

Should you play the games in release or story order?

For a first playthrough

Release order is a straightforward way to encounter the series as it grew: begin with LOW and continue down the list. It is a convenient choice, not a requirement. The developer’s description of the games as standalone stories means you can also start with the entry whose premise interests you most.

If you want chronological order

Do not treat release order as story chronology. The clearest confirmed exception is FOLLOW, which Steam identifies as a prequel to UNFOLLOW. The available official material does not provide a complete chronological order for every game, so a full timeline beyond that relationship would be speculation.
