At the latest available check on October 8, 2026, two independent outage trackers showed no broad Alexa outage signal. That is a snapshot of user reports, not confirmation from Amazon, and it can change quickly. To find out whether the problem is widespread or local, check a tracker, then test another device on the same Wi-Fi network. If that device works, troubleshoot the Echo or Alexa app; if it also fails, focus on your router or internet provider.

Check whether Alexa has a reported outage

Outage trackers can help you spot a sudden increase in reports, but neither of the services checked here is an Amazon status page. Outage.Report said Alexa was working normally on October 8, 2026, with no signals in the prior hour. Down for Everyone or Just Me also showed no detected issue in its crawled snapshot. These are report-based signals, not proof that every Alexa feature is working or that Amazon has confirmed service health.

Check the tracker’s latest timestamp and the geography it covers; user reports may be uneven or delayed. The trackers also showed different histories: Down for Everyone or Just Me listed several report events in 2026, while Outage.Report showed no recorded incident in its past-year summary. Their methods and records differ, so those counts should not be treated as authoritative uptime statistics.

Test your internet connection on another device

Try opening a website or using an online service on a phone or computer connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Echo. This separates a broader network problem from an issue limited to Alexa, the app, or one Echo.

  • The other device also cannot get online: The router or internet connection may be at fault. Restart the router and Echo; if the connection remains down, contact your internet service provider.
  • The other device works: Check the Echo’s Wi-Fi connection, power, mute status, and placement, then restart it.
  • Only one skill or smart-home device fails: The problem may be specific to that service or device rather than Alexa as a whole. The available Amazon guidance does not provide a universal test that confirms a cloud outage.

Fix an Echo that has lost Wi-Fi

Amazon’s Echo Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance recommends these checks when an Echo loses internet access or does not reconnect:

  1. Restart the router and Echo. Unplug the Echo for 30 seconds before reconnecting it. Restart the router as well if other devices cannot connect.
  2. Check the Echo’s Wi-Fi settings. If you changed the network password, update the saved Wi-Fi details for the Echo. If your router shows separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network names, try connecting to the other band.
  3. Improve the signal. Amazon suggests keeping the Echo within 30 feet (10 meters) of the router and moving it away from sources of interference, including microwaves and baby monitors.
  4. Reduce network congestion. Temporarily disconnect some devices if many are using the network, then test the Echo again.

If the internet provider has a network outage, Amazon advises waiting a few hours and trying again, or contacting the provider.

Check power, mute status, and placement

If the Echo is online but does not respond, Amazon UK’s Alexa troubleshooting guidance recommends checking that the device is plugged in with its included power adapter and has an active internet connection. Make sure it is not muted: Amazon says the indicator light is red when the microphone is muted. Move it away from walls, speakers, or background noise that could make it harder to hear your request, then unplug and reconnect it.

Amazon Echo Support notes that “The lights on your Echo device are how the device communicates its status.” Consult Amazon’s Echo support index for model-specific device-light and restart guidance. Resetting or deregistering an Echo can require setup again, so leave those steps until after basic checks and follow instructions for your particular model.

If Alexa works on the Echo but the app does not

An app that is slow or unresponsive is a separate symptom from a confirmed Alexa service outage. Amazon UK lists app-specific guidance in its Alexa App is Slow or Unresponsive help article, including force-stopping the app, signing out, and reinstalling it. App labels and support wording may vary by country and device.

When to contact your internet provider

If multiple devices on the same Wi-Fi cannot access the internet after you restart the router, contact your internet provider. If other devices work but the Echo still cannot reconnect after the Wi-Fi, signal, and restart checks, use Amazon’s Echo support pages for troubleshooting specific to your model. The checks above do not establish a need to buy replacement hardware or a paid repair utility.
