It can be worth it if you spend long stretches away from a charger and need extra battery reserve—but 7,200mAh alone does not tell you how long a phone will last. Runtime depends on the phone’s display, chipset, settings, signal and workload. Compare independent battery tests, then decide whether their results justify the particular phone’s weight and size.
Will a 7,200mAh phone last longer?
A larger battery can store more energy, but it is not a runtime promise. A phone’s components and the way you use it determine how quickly that energy is consumed. Brightness, mobile signal, gaming, video, navigation and background activity can all affect endurance.
Look for independent results that reflect your likely use—such as web browsing, video playback, gaming or a mixed-use test—and prefer comparisons made by the same lab using the same protocol. A manufacturer’s playback estimate answers a narrower question than an independent mixed-use test or a full day of varied use.
For example, PhoneArena lists the 7,200mAh nubia Z80 Ultra at 10 hours 7 minutes of overall battery life in its test table, with separate results for web browsing, video and gaming. How much heavier is a big-battery phone?
The tradeoff depends on the model, not just its battery. Nubia’s global store lists the Z80 Ultra with a 7,200mAh battery and a weight of about 227g. Samsung’s US specifications list the Galaxy S25 Edge with a typical 3,900mAh battery, a weight of 163g and a thickness of 5.8mm. These examples are not a controlled comparison: they differ in more than battery capacity, and no same-protocol test cited here compares the two directly. Do not use their capacity ratio to calculate an expected runtime gain.

What does “up to 24 hours” of video mean?
Samsung advertises up to 24 hours of video playback for the Galaxy S25 Edge. That is the manufacturer’s stated maximum under its conditions, not an independent mixed-use result or a promise that the phone will last that long in your routine. Can a thin, light phone still have a sizeable battery?
Yes, but the balance between thickness, battery capacity and other features varies by design. TechRadar describes Tecno’s Spark Slim with a 5,160mAh battery and discusses the compromises involved in a slim design. A Motorola Edge 70 review lists a 4,800mAh battery in a 5.9mm-thick, 159g phone. These examples show that thinness does not automatically mean a small battery, but they do not establish how long every thin phone lasts. Should you get a thin phone or one with better battery life?
Choose based on the hours you need between charges and how much the phone’s size matters in daily use. A traveler relying on navigation, video or games away from outlets may value more reserve. Someone with easy access to charging who prioritizes pocket comfort and light one-handed handling may prefer a lighter phone—provided its tested endurance covers their day.
