Choose an iPhone if you want iOS and the continuity of an Apple-centered setup; choose a Galaxy if you prefer Android or a specific Galaxy model’s screen and camera configuration. For a fair comparison, match the models you would actually buy: this guide uses Apple’s iPhone 17 and Samsung’s Galaxy S26 family, whose Plus and Ultra models differ from the base S26.
Which should you choose: iPhone or Samsung Galaxy?
Start with the platform you prefer and the devices and services you already rely on. If your daily setup is built around Apple devices and you specifically want iOS, the iPhone 17 is the natural fit. If you prefer Android or want to choose among different Galaxy screen sizes and camera configurations, compare the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra.
This is a comparison of manufacturer-listed features, not a head-to-head test. A phone’s megapixel count, battery capacity, or advertised video-playback estimate alone cannot establish which camera takes better pictures or which phone lasts longer in everyday use.
How do the iPhone 17 and Galaxy S26 compare on size and display?
For the base models, the manufacturers list a 6.3-inch display on both phones and adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. The Galaxy family gives you larger alternatives: Samsung lists a 6.7-inch display on the S26+ and a 6.9-inch display on the S26 Ultra.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.
- Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro). Battery: 5000 mAh, non-removable | A power adapter is NOT included.
| Model | Manufacturer-listed display | Refresh rate |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone 17 | 6.3-inch OLED | Adaptive ProMotion up to 120Hz |
| Galaxy S26 | 6.3-inch FHD+ | Adaptive 120Hz |
| Galaxy S26+ | 6.7-inch QHD+ | Adaptive 120Hz |
| Galaxy S26 Ultra | 6.9-inch QHD+ | Adaptive 120Hz |
The sizes and display descriptions above come from Apple’s iPhone 17 specifications and Samsung’s US Galaxy S26 comparison. Screen size is a useful starting point, but it does not determine which phone feels comfortable in your hand or pocket.
Which phone has the camera you need?
Compare the actual camera hardware for the model you are considering, especially if you want a dedicated telephoto lens. Samsung lists a 12MP ultrawide, 50MP wide, and 10MP 3x telephoto camera for both the S26 and S26+. The S26 Ultra has a more extensive setup: a 50MP ultrawide, 200MP wide, and two telephoto cameras, including a 50MP telephoto. Apple’s cited iPhone 17 specification lists a 48MP Fusion Main camera.

| Model | Manufacturer-listed rear camera details |
|---|---|
| iPhone 17 | 48MP Fusion Main camera |
| Galaxy S26 and S26+ | 12MP ultrawide, 50MP wide, 10MP 3x telephoto |
| Galaxy S26 Ultra | 50MP ultrawide, 200MP wide, two telephoto cameras, including 50MP telephoto |
These specifications are listed by Apple and Samsung. They describe hardware, not comparative image-quality results. If zoom reach matters to you, the listed dedicated telephoto hardware is a reason to examine the Galaxy models; it is not proof that every Galaxy photo will look better.
Which one lasts longer on a charge?
The available manufacturer figures do not establish a controlled battery-life comparison. Samsung lists typical capacities of 4,300mAh for the S26, 4,900mAh for the S26+, and 5,000mAh for the S26 Ultra, and advertises model-specific video-playback estimates. Apple’s specification describes a charging condition, not comparable runtime. Battery capacity and playback figures from different manufacturers should not be treated as equivalent real-world results.

- 5G SPEED ON A RELIABLE NETWORK – Stream movies, download files, and game at incredible speeds with 5G connectivity. Powered by an efficient octa-core processor, the Galaxy A16 is built to perform on Verizon's powerful and dependable nationwide network.
For the iPhone 17, Apple states: “Up to 50% charge in 20 minutes with 40W adapter or higher (available separately) paired with USB-C charging cable.” That is Apple’s stated condition, not an independent comparison. Check your local package and accessory compatibility before buying a charger; the adapter is sold separately under that condition.
If battery life is the deciding factor, look for an independent test that compares the exact models under the same conditions. Without that kind of matched test, there is no sound basis here to name a battery-life winner.

Can you move from iPhone to Samsung Galaxy?
Samsung’s Smart Switch provides a route to transfer selected data from iOS to Galaxy. Samsung says it can move contacts, photos, videos, notes, and calendar events, using a wireless or cable transfer. This is not a promise that every app, account, password, or setting will transfer automatically.
For file sharing after switching, Samsung says Quick Share can exchange files with Apple devices that support AirDrop after the relevant Galaxy software update. The process has visibility requirements: Samsung’s sending instructions call for the Apple recipient to enable AirDrop for everyone for a limited period, while receiving instructions require a visible Quick Share receiving mode or a temporary everyone setting. Check the current instructions and settings on both devices before relying on a transfer.

- Screen Size: 6.5 in.
What else should you check before deciding?
- Match the tier and storage: Compare the exact models and storage capacities available to you, rather than treating “Galaxy” as one phone.
- Choose the size deliberately: The base phones are both listed at 6.3 inches, while Samsung’s cited S26 family includes larger 6.7- and 6.9-inch options.
- Check local pricing and availability: Prices, storage configurations, carrier offers, and promotions depend on market and timing. Check current local listings for the models you are comparing.
- Check specialized features by model: Samsung’s US comparison states that the S26, S26+, and S26 FE do not support S Pen functionality; do not assume every Galaxy model supports it.
Apple identifies iPhone 17 as a 2025 model and lists an IP68 rating under its stated test standard. These manufacturer specifications do not establish a broader durability ranking against the Galaxy family.
