Choose the iPhone Duo if you want a foldable that fits an iOS-first setup and two-app side-by-side work; choose the Galaxy Z Fold 8 if lower carry weight and more flexible multitasking matter more. As of October 7, 2026, the Duo is announced but not yet available, while Tom’s Guide reports the Fold 8 is available in the U.S. If a larger screen or optical zoom is a priority, add Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold to your shortlist.
iPhone Duo vs. a foldable phone: what is the practical difference?
Both the iPhone Duo and Galaxy Z Fold 8 open to a 7.6-inch inner display, but that diagonal measurement does not tell you how wide or comfortable the screen will feel. The Duo’s outer display is 5.4 inches; the Fold 8’s cover display is 5.5 inches. Their screen proportions differ, so consider the folded phone you will use most of the time as well as the larger screen you get when it is open.
Apple says the Duo supports two apps side by side in Split View, two windows of the same app, and saved app pairs. Tom’s Guide reports that the Fold 8 can display three apps and use floating windows. If you mostly check a message while watching video or refer to one document while writing in another, two panes may be enough. If you routinely keep several tools visible, the Fold 8’s reported window options are more accommodating.
How do their size and portability compare?
Tom’s Guide lists the iPhone Duo at 254 g and 11.3 mm thick when closed, compared with 201 g and 9.7 mm for the Galaxy Z Fold 8. That is a 53 g weight difference, and the Duo is thicker when folded. Those figures suggest the Fold 8 may be easier to carry or use one-handed, but they are specifications—not a comfort test. If possible, handle a foldable in person before choosing based on pocketability.

Which one fits your software and daily workflow?
Choose iPhone Duo for iOS continuity
If you already rely on iOS apps, services, and familiar iPhone workflows, the Duo is the more natural foldable fit. Apple’s Split View is designed around two apps at a time, with the option to save app pairs. The phone is announced with iOS 27.1. The Duo is also eSIM-only worldwide, so check that your carrier supports eSIM and that your travel arrangements do not depend on a physical SIM.
Choose Galaxy Z Fold 8 for more visible windows
The Fold 8 is the stronger fit if you use Android or want to see more than two apps at once. Tom’s Guide reports that it can run up to three apps simultaneously and supports floating windows. Consider the apps you actually use together: the number of windows matters only if your everyday tasks benefit from keeping them visible.

How do the screens, cameras, and durability ratings compare?
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is worth including if the two-phone comparison does not cover what you need. Google lists an 8-inch inner display, a 6.4-inch outer display, and a triple rear camera with 5x optical telephoto. Its U.S. starting price is $1,799 on Google’s specification page. The larger inner display and dedicated telephoto give it different strengths from the Duo and Fold 8, whose cited comparisons list dual rear cameras without a telephoto lens.
The listed ingress-protection ratings are IP68 for iPhone Duo, IP48 for Galaxy Z Fold 8, and IP68 for Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Tom’s Guide notes that the Fold 8’s IP48 rating does not include dust resistance. These ratings describe protection against specified ingress conditions; they do not establish that a phone will survive a particular drop, exposure to sand, or years of folding. Google’s statements about the Pixel hinge’s longevity are manufacturer claims, not independent long-term testing.

What do price, availability, and battery evidence tell you?
| Phone | U.S. starting price | Availability on October 7, 2026 | Battery evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone Duo | $1,999 for 256 GB, according to Apple | Announced; pre-orders scheduled for October 16 and availability for October 23, 2026 | Apple claims up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display, up to 44 hours on the outer display, or up to 24 hours with equal use of both |
| Galaxy Z Fold 8 | $1,899 for 256 GB, according to Tom’s Guide | Reported available by Tom’s Guide | 12 hours, 19 minutes in Tom’s Guide’s 5G web-browsing battery test |
| Pixel 10 Pro Fold | $1,799, according to Google’s specification page | Check Google’s current local listing | Google’s specification page lists a 5,015 mAh typical battery; it does not provide a directly comparable test result here |
The Duo’s planned U.S. launch schedule is not a guarantee of availability in every market: Apple announced availability in more than 70 countries and regions from October 23, with 28 additional countries and regions from October 30. Confirm local timing before ordering. The $100 difference between the Duo and Fold 8 is a point-in-time comparison of U.S. starting prices, not a verdict on value everywhere.
Apple’s playback figures are manufacturer estimates, while Tom’s Guide’s Fold 8 result comes from an independent 5G web-surfing test. The different devices, activities, and test methods mean those hours cannot be compared as if they came from one shared battery test. Apple also claims wired charging to 50% in around 20 minutes and wireless charging to 50% in around 30 minutes with a MagSafe or Qi2 charger; those are Apple’s stated figures, not independent results. Tom’s Guide reports that the Fold 8 reached 70% in 30 minutes in its review test.

- Designed for Gemini Intelligence, brighter screens, and a more durable design, the new Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold delivers eye-opening performance and makes multitasking effortless[1,2,3]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[4]

Which foldable should you choose?
- Pick the iPhone Duo if you are invested in iOS, two apps cover your usual multitasking, and you can wait for its scheduled availability. Its listed IP68 rating and Apple’s stated battery figures may matter to your shortlist, but neither establishes real-world durability or independent battery performance.
- Pick the Galaxy Z Fold 8 if you want a lighter, thinner closed phone, a lower U.S. starting price in this comparison, and the option to keep three apps or floating windows in view. Its listed IP48 rating does not include dust resistance.
- Compare the Pixel 10 Pro Fold if an 8-inch inner screen or 5x optical telephoto is more important than choosing between Apple and Samsung. Google’s hinge-longevity statements are manufacturer claims, not independent lifecycle results.
For any of these phones, do not treat an ingress rating, a battery claim, or a hinge statement as proof of long-term survival. No independent comparative statistic for hinge life or crease wear is established by the cited sources.
