Apple has not announced an iPhone Air 2. The current reports point to a possible early-2027 release, but that timing and every claimed upgrade remain unconfirmed rumors—not an Apple launch schedule or specification sheet.
When might the iPhone Air 2 come out?
A July 31, 2026 report by MacRumors, citing analyst Jeff Pu, said the iPhone Air 2 could launch in the first quarter of 2027. That is a forecast attributed to an analyst, not a date announced by Apple. Apple’s official iPhone Air materials reviewed for this article cover the current model and do not confirm an Air 2.
That means the available information does not establish that the phone is delayed, either: without an official release schedule, there is no confirmed launch date against which to measure a delay.
What features are rumored for the iPhone Air 2?
Pu’s reported expectations and a later roundup do not agree on every detail. The table separates those claims from what is confirmed.

The disagreement over the processor is material: the July report attributes an A20 Pro expectation to Pu, while Tom’s Guide’s September 3 roundup includes a standard A20 among rumored upgrades. The larger-battery claim appears in the later roundup, not the July report. Neither claim is confirmed. The additional ultrawide camera is the clearest headline hardware change in Pu’s report, but it too remains a rumor.
What is confirmed about the current iPhone Air?
Apple’s current iPhone Air specifications, accessed October 8, 2026, describe a 165-gram phone with a 5.64-millimeter depth and a 6.5-inch OLED display. Apple lists a 48-megapixel Fusion rear camera, an 18-megapixel Center Stage front camera, and video playback of up to 27 hours. These are specifications for the current iPhone Air only; they do not verify the rumored Air 2 carryovers.

In its September 9, 2025 launch announcement, Apple described the current Air as its thinnest iPhone and listed a titanium design, a 6.5-inch display with ProMotion up to 120Hz, Ceramic Shield 2 on the front, and Apple-designed N1 and C1X chips. Apple’s descriptions of durability and battery life are company claims, not independent test results.

If you can wait, treat early 2027 as a reported possibility rather than a commitment, and do not base a purchase decision on a particular camera, chip, or battery upgrade being certain. When Apple announces a successor, compare its official specifications with the current Air’s verified display, dimensions, cameras, and battery figure.
