What is the iPhone 20 display rumor?
“iPhone 20” and “20th-anniversary iPhone” are press shorthand for a rumored 2027 premium iPhone, not an announced product name. MacRumors, summarizing Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, described a special iPhone planned for later in 2027 with a mostly glass, curved design and no display cutouts. The report did not explain exactly what “mostly glass, curved” meant, and a reported plan is not a launch commitment. MacRumors’ summary of Gurman’s report.
A later MacRumors report, citing Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station, says Apple is seeking a custom Samsung-made OLED panel with shallow curves on all four sides—described as “micro-curved”—and without a polarizer. Why would Apple use a Samsung display?
The reports attribute the proposed panel to Samsung Display, but do not establish a finalized supplier deal or explain Apple’s internal reasons for choosing it. They also do not show that Samsung is preventing Apple from achieving a preferred design. The defensible takeaway is that a reported display design involves trade-offs—not that a supplier is blocking Apple’s plans.

What is COE OLED, and what is the trade-off?
One September 2025 MacRumors article, citing ETNews, said Apple could use Samsung-made Color Filter on Encapsulation (COE) technology in the anniversary phone. In a conventional OLED stack, a polarizing film helps suppress reflections but absorbs some of the light emitted by the display. COE removes that film and places a color filter on the OLED encapsulation layer. The reported potential benefits are a thinner display stack and greater light transmission; the trade-off is that glare and reflections become more difficult to manage. MacRumors’ report on COE.
MacRumors’ April 2026 report says Apple might address the reflection and brightness-uniformity challenges with coatings and a light-diffusion layer. These are reported design approaches, not measured results from a finished or shipping iPhone. Without product testing, it is not possible to say how well they would work.

Will the 20th-anniversary iPhone have a curved screen?
That remains unconfirmed. The reports describe a mostly glass, curved concept and a later leak’s more specific claim of shallow curves along all four sides. Curvature might affect how content looks near the edges, but the available reporting does not establish a flaw or provide measurements. The practical question is whether Apple could balance a thin, light-transmitting panel with usable edges and effective reflection control.
Are the rumored sizes and launch details settled?
No. In September 2026, T3 relayed a Weibo leak assigning possible 6.41-inch and 6.96-inch displays to iPhone 20 Pro and Pro Max prototypes. It also reported disagreement about the front camera and Dynamic Island, and cautioned that prototype details could change. Those figures and design details are early leak claims, not specifications. No. The reviewed reports do not include official confirmation from Apple of the device, its name, a 2027 release, Samsung as its supplier, or any display specifications.
