That difference in form matters more than a simple spec-sheet ranking. On price, Apple’s documented $1,099 figure is the iPhone’s U.S. launch price from September 2025, while Samsung’s U.S. page showed discounted Fold8 prices on October 4, 2026. They are not matching, current-price snapshots.

How much is the price difference?
A like-for-like current price gap cannot be established from the available figures: Apple’s $1,099 price is the iPhone 17 Pro’s U.S. starting price at launch in September 2025, while Samsung’s figures below are sale prices displayed on its U.S. purchase page when accessed October 4, 2026. Compare the same storage capacity and check current seller terms before treating the difference as a buying decision.
| Storage | iPhone 17 Pro U.S. price | Galaxy Z Fold8 U.S. price shown October 4, 2026 |

Samsung’s U.S. product page gives a $1,899.99 starting price before trade-in, while its purchase page displayed the sale prices above and noted delivery delays for popular combinations. Promotions and availability can change; check whether the price shown at checkout depends on a trade-in, carrier, or other condition. Which design and display suits you?
Choose the iPhone’s conventional phone format for a single-screen device
The iPhone 17 Pro’s 6.3-inch display keeps the experience in a familiar phone format. It is the simpler fit if your priority is a standard handset rather than having a second, larger screen available by opening the device.
Choose the Fold8 for its unfolded workspace
The Fold8 combines a 6.5-inch cover display for use while closed with a 7.6-inch main display when open. That extra screen area may be useful for reading, viewing content, or working across a larger interface. Whether it outweighs the foldable format is a matter of how often you would use the opened screen; the published screen sizes alone do not establish a universal usability advantage.

How do the cameras and chips compare?
Camera hardware
Apple lists three 48MP Fusion rear cameras—Main, Ultra Wide and Telephoto—and an 18MP Center Stage front camera. Samsung lists a 50MP Wide and 50MP Ultra Wide rear camera, plus 10MP front cameras on both the cover and main screens. The camera layouts and placements differ, and megapixel counts do not establish which phone takes better photos or video.
Processors
The iPhone uses Apple’s A19 Pro, while the Fold8 uses Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. The chip names identify different platforms; without comparable benchmark results, they do not show which phone is faster in real use.

Battery and storage: what the published specs establish
Samsung specifies a 4,800mAh battery and rates the Fold8 for up to 26 hours of video streaming. Apple describes improved battery life for iPhone 17 Pro but does not provide a comparable hours figure in the cited launch announcement. These disclosures use different measures, so they do not settle which phone lasts longer in everyday use.
Both phones are listed in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB capacities. Samsung says the 1TB Fold8 has 16GB of memory, while its 256GB and 512GB versions have 12GB. Select storage for your own needs and compare the corresponding price; the memory difference is specific to the Fold8 configurations.

Fold8 limitations and accessory compatibility
Samsung says the Galaxy Z Fold8 does not support S Pen or FlexMode. Buyers expecting stylus input or FlexMode use should treat those as unavailable features rather than assuming they carry over from other foldables.
Apple announced MagSafe-compatible iPhone 17 Pro cases, including TechWoven, Clear and Silicone options, as well as a MagSafe charger. Samsung describes magnetic-ring cases for the Fold8. Accessory fit and charging compatibility are model-specific, so verify the exact device listing and charger support before buying.

Quick Recap
Which phone should you choose?
- Consider iPhone 17 Pro if you want a conventional 6.3-inch phone and its listed camera and video capabilities fit your needs. The cited $1,099 figure is a launch price, not a verified current quote.
- Consider Galaxy Z Fold8 if you value having a much larger 7.6-inch display when unfolded and will use the foldable design enough to justify comparing its current configuration price.
- Do not decide from chip names, megapixels, or battery disclosures alone. The manufacturer specifications do not provide a comparable performance, camera-quality, or battery-life test.
