The iPhone 17 is reported to have 8GB of RAM, while iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro are each reported to have 12GB. These figures are based on reporting that Apple’s Xcode 26 developer tool confirmed them; Apple’s public product-spec pages reviewed here do not list RAM capacity.
Reported RAM in each iPhone model
| Model | Reported RAM |
|---|---|
| iPhone 17 | 8GB, as listed by Tom’s Guide’s 2025 comparison; contemporary reporting says Xcode 26 confirmed the amount (Ceppek, September 2025). |
| iPhone Air | 12GB, as listed by Tom’s Guide’s 2025 comparison; contemporary reporting says Xcode 26 confirmed the amount (Ceppek, September 2025). |
| iPhone 17 Pro | 12GB, as listed by Tom’s Guide’s 2025 comparison; contemporary reporting says Xcode 26 confirmed the amount (Ceppek, September 2025). |
What Apple’s specifications say
Apple’s public product pages reviewed for this comparison identify the phones and describe their official features, but do not state how much RAM they have. See Apple’s iPhone Air technical specifications, iPhone 17 Pro technical specifications, and iPhone Air announcement dated September 9, 2025. The RAM figures above should therefore be read as reported specifications associated with Xcode 26—not as capacities Apple states on those public pages.
Does more RAM mean you should choose a different model?
Not by itself. The reported 12GB capacity in iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro does not establish that either will be faster or a better fit for every person than the iPhone 17. RAM is one part of a comparison; chip, display size, storage options, and camera system also matter. Apple’s Air announcement highlights its thin design and 6.5-inch display, while its Pro specifications detail that model’s official features. Consider the whole specification set and your priorities rather than treating RAM as a stand-alone performance verdict.
