Yes. A 163-page package of iPhone 16e electrical schematics was reportedly visible temporarily in the FCC’s equipment-authorization database in September 2025, despite Apple having requested confidentiality. The report said the documents were later removed. The exposure could interest hardware researchers and repair specialists, but it does not make the iPhone 16e a routine DIY repair or establish a security risk to owners.
What happened?
On September 29, 2025, 9to5Mac reported that 163 pages of iPhone 16e electrical schematics had briefly appeared in the FCC equipment-authorization database. According to that contemporaneous report, Apple had requested confidentiality, and the documents were subsequently pulled from the database. 9to5Mac also said FCCID.io mirrored the files before they were removed. Read 9to5Mac’s report.
The report attributed the apparent exposure to filing metadata that marked both short-term and permanent confidentiality “no.” That may help explain why the material became public, but the available reporting does not establish an official FCC explanation or confirm the precise administrative cause.
Which iPhone 16e models were named?
The report identified four variants in the schematic package: A3212, A3408, A3409, and A3410. A third-party archive separately lists an Apple authorization record for model A3212 under FCC ID BCG-E8725A, with an application date of February 19, 2025, and an availability date of July 23, 2025. Those archive dates are filing metadata, not confirmation that the reported schematic package remains publicly available. View the FCCID.io record.

What can board-level schematics reveal?
The reported package included electrical schematics and block diagrams with technical details such as component locations, antenna placement, connectors, test pads, and signal routing. Such information can help hardware researchers understand how a device is arranged and may assist specialists doing board-level diagnosis or repair.
These are not user instructions or a consumer repair manual. The report does not establish that the documents revealed a vulnerability, created a direct safety issue, or changed what ordinary owners can do with their phones.

How do the schematics differ from Apple’s repair information?
Apple’s iPhone 16e Recycler Guide, dated June 2025, serves a different purpose. It includes a component-location diagram identifying parts such as the battery, logic board, camera, USB-C connector, speakers, and display, along with disassembly instructions. It is official component and recycling context, not the same electrical-schematic package described in the report.
The FCC test report for model A3212 is regulatory material rather than a repair guide. It states: “This device is not user-serviceable and requires special tools to disassemble.” It also says the rechargeable battery is not user accessible. Read the FCC test report.

How serious is this leak?
For owners, the confirmed practical significance is limited: the reported exposure involved technical documentation, not a demonstrated consumer exploit or a newly available safe repair method. Skilled electronics specialists may find board-level information useful, but access to schematics does not remove the need for specialized equipment or make opening the phone straightforward.
As of the reporting cited here, no current FCC-hosted copy or official FCC account of the publication history was established. The report described the documents as removed after their brief appearance; the available evidence does not establish their current availability or a documented consumer safety impact.
