How much does an iPhone 16 cost right now?

What iPhone 16 deal is Verizon offering?
Tom’s Guide reported on October 6, 2026, that Verizon was offering up to $1,000 off an iPhone 16 for customers adding a new line and choosing an eligible unlimited plan. The report does not establish the complete consumer terms, credit duration, or expiration date, and the matching official offer details are not confirmed here. Treat “up to” as a maximum for qualifying customers, not a guaranteed price for every buyer; verify the live Verizon offer and its conditions before switching or adding a line.

Why “free” may not mean free upfront
Verizon says device promotions commonly apply as monthly bill credits over the promotion term. Credits may end if you no longer meet the offer conditions, such as keeping the required plan. Before accepting a deal, find out the credit amount and duration, what happens if you cancel or change plans, and whether you must keep the line active for the full term.
Apple purchase or carrier promotion: which makes sense?
Compare the full cost of getting and using the phone, not just the advertised device discount. A carrier deal can be worthwhile if you already want the qualifying plan and can meet its conditions; a large headline credit may be less attractive if it requires a new line or a more expensive plan you would not otherwise choose.

For any option, work out the net device cost after a trade-in or credits, then add the plan cost you will actually pay over the required period. Include any remaining device balance if you leave before credits finish. A phone discount is not automatically a saving if the service commitment costs more than an alternative you would choose.
Do you need to trade in your old phone?
Apple’s listed $799 activation price does not depend on trading in a phone. Trade-in is a separate way to reduce the purchase price, with Apple showing a device-dependent range of $35–$885. Carrier promotions may have their own eligibility rules; the reported Verizon headline does not establish whether a trade-in is required. Confirm that in the official offer terms rather than assuming the maximum discount applies without one.

Is the iPhone 16 unlocked, and will it work with your carrier?
Apple says the iPhone models for AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon are the same. However, Apple notes that a phone financed through a carrier may remain locked until it is paid in full. If you need to move between carriers, check the seller’s locking and unlocking conditions before purchase; do not assume a carrier-financed phone is immediately unlocked.
The U.S. iPhone 16 is eSIM-only and has no physical SIM-card compatibility. Confirm that your intended carrier supports eSIM and that you can complete its activation process. Apple lists a 6.1-inch display, USB-C connector, MagSafe wireless charging up to 25W, and up to 22 hours of video playback. The USB-C adapter and MagSafe charger are sold separately.
