Then check its power source, cable, adapter, and charging port, and give it time to charge. Use a computer recovery process only for a startup or update problem; if the phone remains off after the basic checks, contact Apple Support or an authorized service provider.
1. Force restart your iPhone 15
A force restart can help when the iPhone is unresponsive but still has power. It does not erase your data.
- Quickly press and release the Volume Up button.
- Quickly press and release the Volume Down button.
- Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears, then release it. This can take longer than 10 seconds.
Follow Apple’s instructions for an iPhone that won’t turn on or has a black screen.
2. Check the outlet and charging connections
Connect the iPhone to a wall outlet. Make sure the cable is firmly connected to the phone and the USB power adapter, and that the adapter is firmly plugged into the outlet. If there is no sign of charging, try another outlet.

Don't insert pick over 3 mm, and don't insert your pick in left edge, as may damage internal components. Remove the screw securing the display connector bracket and disconnect the front sensor cable. Connect the new screen cable and please carefully align and press down on one side until it clicks into place. Do not press down on the middle. If the connector is misaligned, causing permanent damage.
3. Check the cable and power adapter
Inspect both accessories for damage, such as a frayed or broken cable or bent adapter prongs. Do not use damaged accessories. If you have another compatible cable or adapter, try it to check whether the original accessory is the problem. Apple’s charging guidance recommends checking the connections and trying another cable or adapter when available.
4. Check the charging port
Look at the charging port for debris. If you see debris, remove it carefully; Apple’s instructions do not specify a cleaning tool or technique, so avoid inserting objects or using an unverified method. Reconnect the cable firmly after checking the port.

5. Let the iPhone charge, then try again
Apple’s no-power instructions say to charge the iPhone for one hour and then try turning it on again. Its charging article describes a separate sequence: charge for 30 minutes, force restart if the phone still will not turn on or shows a battery icon, then charge for another 30 minutes. These are troubleshooting steps, not guarantees that the phone will recover.
6. Use recovery mode only for a startup or update problem
Recovery mode is relevant if the iPhone is stuck during startup or cannot be updated or restored; it is not a routine next step for every black screen. Apple’s recovery-mode instructions require a computer. If the computer offers Update or Restore, try Update first. Restore reinstalls iOS and erases all data on the iPhone.

When to seek service
If the iPhone still will not turn on after the force restart and charging checks, Apple says it may need service. Apple offers in-person and mail-in service options, but availability depends on your location and parts. See Apple’s iPhone repair options.
