In iOS 26, Photo and Video are the Camera app’s prominent modes, while other modes sit in a swipeable selector. Tap the Camera Controls button—or swipe up from the modes—to open grouped options such as Timer and Aspect. Some settings, including Grid and Level, remain in Settings > Camera.
What changed in the iOS 26 Camera app?
Apple refreshed the Camera app layout to make Photo and Video easier to reach and group more controls onscreen. Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, described the aim as helping users keep their attention on the moment they’re capturing. The redesign changes where controls appear; it does not require new hardware. Apple’s iOS 26 announcement and its iOS 26 feature guide describe the layout.
Photo and Video are easiest to reach
Photo and Video are the two prominent modes. Swipe left or right across the mode selector to reach other modes, then use the labels shown on your screen. The available modes and options can vary by iPhone model, so the visible selector is the best guide to what your device supports.
Controls are grouped in a menu
Instead of looking for every option among the main camera buttons, open the controls menu: tap the Camera Controls button or swipe up from the camera modes. Apple’s guide to iPhone camera tools shows Timer and Aspect among the available controls.

How to set the timer or change the aspect ratio
Set a timer
- Open Camera and select Photo.
- Tap the Camera Controls button or swipe up from the modes.
- Choose Timer, then select 3s, 5s, or 10s.
Choose an aspect ratio
- Open the Camera Controls menu using the button or by swiping up from the modes.
- Choose Aspect.
- Select 1:1, 4:3, or 16:9.
Which camera settings are still in Settings?
Not every camera option moved into the onscreen controls. To turn on Grid or Level, go to Settings > Camera. Advanced options are also configured in Settings, although availability and labels depend on the iPhone model.
Advanced settings and their paths
- Resolution: Settings > Camera > Formats.
- View Outside the Frame: Settings > Camera.
- Prioritize Faster Shooting: Settings > Camera.
- Lens Correction: Settings > Camera.
Apple’s advanced camera settings guide lists these paths. Check the options shown on your device, since model support and labels can differ.

Other iOS 26 Camera features
Separate from the new layout, Apple lists several Camera-related additions in its iOS 26 feature overview and iOS 26 update notes.
- Lens-cleaning hints: Available on iPhone 15 and later.
- Configurable Camera Control options: Camera Control settings can be adjusted.
- Improved panorama capture: Apple lists improvements to panorama capture.
- AirPods camera gesture: AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2 and later can be used for a gesture to take a photo or start video. This is an optional remote shutter feature, not a requirement for the redesigned Camera app.
Which iOS 26 version should you check?
Apple’s update notes are the place to check the latest iOS 26 release and its fixes. At the time of the cited update information, iOS 26.7.1 was listed as providing security fixes; point releases can change, so check Apple’s iOS 26 update page for current details. Camera features and settings can also depend on your iPhone model.
