In Primate Labs’ testing, the benefit depended on the Geekbench version and workload—and the tool added launch delays. Treat a BOT-enabled score as a result for a specific optimized application, not a universal CPU ranking.
What Intel BOT does—and what it does not do
BOT modifies instruction sequences in selected executable programs to improve performance. It is not a general switch that speeds up every application on an Intel PC: it works only with a limited set of supported programs, including Geekbench 6. Primate Labs founder John Poole described that limitation in the March 31, 2026 Geekbench Blog investigation.
The distinction matters when comparing processors. A benchmark score produced with BOT enabled measures Intel hardware running a specially optimized version of a supported workload. It does not establish how the CPU performs across applications that do not use BOT, nor does it make that result directly representative of ordinary mixed use.
What Primate Labs measured
Primate Labs compared BOT enabled and disabled on its MSI Prestige 16 AI+ laptop with an Intel Core 9 386H. Its results changed substantially with the Geekbench version:
#1 Best Overall

| Benchmark configuration | BOT off | BOT on | Reported difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Geekbench 6.3 single-core | 2,955 | 3,119 | 5.5% higher |
| Geekbench 6.3 multi-core | 16,786 | 17,705 | 5.5% higher |
| Geekbench 6.7 single-core | 2,938 | 2,937 | 0.0% difference |
| Geekbench 6.7 multi-core | 16,892 | 17,045 | 0.9% higher |
These are results from Primate Labs’ specific laptop and test configuration, not a market-wide measure or an independent replication. The figures show why a single BOT-enabled score can mislead: the 5.5% gains appeared in Geekbench 6.3, while the lab characterized the Geekbench 6.7 scores as roughly unchanged.
Some workloads gained much more than the overall score
Within Geekbench 6.3, Primate Labs reported gains of up to 30% in two workloads, Object Remover and HDR. That maximum applies to those specific workloads in the lab’s test; it is not a 30% improvement to the processor generally.

- Ergonomically Designed: Work in tight areas with a compact design that gets into tough spots
- Compact and Lightweight: Both tools are designed to fit into difficult to reach spaces. The 1/4" impact driver has a length of 5.55 in. and weighs just 2.8 lbs, while the 1/2" drill/driver measures only 7.5 in. and weighs 3.6 lbs
- Both the DEWALT impact driver and electric drill driver feature integrated LED work lights with a convenient 20-second delay, ensuring enhanced visibility in dimly lit or challenging work areas
- One-Handed Loading - Keep one hand free with a 1/4 in. hex chuck that accepts 1 in. bit tips
- Power drill cordless with 1/2" single sleeve ratcheting chuck provides tight bit gripping strength, making bit changes faster and more secure
What changed inside the HDR workload
To investigate HDR, Primate Labs ran 100 iterations under Intel’s Software Development Emulator. It counted 1.26 trillion total instructions with BOT off and 1.08 trillion with BOT on, a 14% reduction. Scalar instructions fell from 220 billion to 84.6 billion, while vector instructions rose from 1.25 billion to 18.3 billion. Primate Labs interpreted this as evidence that BOT vectorized code, rather than merely reordering instructions. The implementation analysis is the lab’s interpretation; its post notes that Intel’s public BOT documentation was limited.
Why the benchmark result is a comparability problem
A benchmark is useful for comparing CPUs when the same workload and method are applied consistently. If one vendor’s processor runs selected benchmark code through a vendor-specific optimizer while competing processors run the ordinary executable, the score may reflect both the CPU and the special optimization. That makes cross-vendor comparisons less representative of performance in applications that do not receive the same treatment.

Poole argued that optimizing only selected programs can make Intel processors appear faster relative to AMD and other vendors than they would in typical real-world use. That is the benchmark developer’s conclusion from its investigation—not proof that every BOT result is fraudulent, or that Intel hardware has no genuine advantage in workloads that benefit from the optimization.
Geekbench’s database handling also matters: Tom’s Hardware reported that Geekbench 6.7 added BOT detection and flags BOT-enabled results as invalid or incomparable in its database. This is a policy for interpreting and listing benchmark submissions, not a claim that BOT makes an Intel CPU unusable or that every application is affected.

The catch: startup overhead and workload dependence
In Primate Labs’ configuration, the first Geekbench 6.3 launch with BOT enabled incurred a 40-second delay; later launches took two seconds. Geekbench 6.7 runs had a two-second delay with BOT enabled. These are measured startup delays in that setup, not a guaranteed penalty for every supported application or computer.
The size of any benefit also depends on the exact application and benchmark version. The 6.3 gains, the much larger Object Remover and HDR results, and the near-flat 6.7 comparison should not be blended into one headline percentage. For a real workload, the relevant question is whether that program is supported, whether BOT is active, and whether the performance change matters in the way you use it.

Does this make Intel CPUs a hard sell?
BOT alone is not enough to decide whether an Intel CPU is worth buying. A separate Ars Technica review of Intel’s Core Ultra 200S Plus desktop chips found strong multi-core performance in heavy work, while also noting gaming and platform trade-offs. That review did not test BOT, so its CPU findings should not be treated as an explanation of the Geekbench results.
For context, the review listed the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus at $199 and the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus at $299 at publication. Those are period-specific prices, not guaranteed current prices. In the reviewer’s gaming tests, AMD’s non-X3D chips retained a small edge, while X3D models could lead further. The review also described DDR5 as expensive at the time and said Intel’s LGA 1851 socket offered little future upgrade potential compared with AMD’s AM5 platform. Those considerations vary with current component prices, the motherboard you already own, and how long you expect to keep the system.
How to compare CPUs without being misled by a BOT score
- Match the workload. Decide whether your priority is multi-core productivity, gaming, or another specific application; results in one category do not settle the others.
- Check the benchmark conditions. Look for the benchmark version and whether BOT was enabled. Do not treat an optimized executable result as an ordinary cross-vendor ranking.
- Compare total platform cost. Include the CPU, compatible motherboard, and memory—not just the processor’s listed price.
- Account for your upgrade path. An existing compatible motherboard can change the economics, as can how soon you expect to replace the system.
- Use results from comparable configurations. Power, cooling, thermals, and system setup can affect performance; compare like with like where test details are available.
The fairest reading of the BOT story is narrow: Intel can gain a measurable advantage in certain optimized benchmark workloads, but that advantage varies by version and does not translate into a blanket claim that Intel beats AMD. For a buying decision, prioritize results from the applications and system configuration you will actually use.
