Intel’s 14th Gen desktop processors are associated with Raptor Lake, not Rocket Lake. Intel’s processor reference lists Rocket Lake as the codename for 11th Gen processors, launched in Q1 2021, and Raptor Lake as the former codename for 14th Gen, launched in Q4 2023. The 14th Gen lineup arrived in stages: Intel introduced six unlocked desktop processors for enthusiasts in October 2023, then announced the fuller mobile and desktop range, including mainstream desktop models, in January 2024.
Is Intel 14th Gen Rocket Lake or Raptor Lake?
It is Raptor Lake. “Rocket Lake Refresh” is not the correct name for Intel’s 14th Gen Core desktop lineup. Intel’s processor collection, codename, and launch-date reference identifies 11th Gen as formerly Rocket Lake, with a Q1 2021 launch, and 14th Gen as formerly Raptor Lake, with a Q4 2023 launch.
That distinction matters when searching for CPUs, compatibility information, or product listings: use “14th Gen Core” or “Raptor Lake” for this family. Rocket Lake refers to a different, earlier generation.
What did Intel announce in October 2023?
On October 16, 2023, Intel announced six unlocked 14th Gen desktop processors aimed at enthusiasts. The launch announcement identified the Core i9-14900K and Core i9-14900KF as the lineup’s leading models. Intel said the family offered up to 24 cores, 32 threads, and an out-of-the-box clock speed of up to 6 GHz. These are Intel’s launch claims, not independent performance-test results.

When did the rest of the 14th Gen lineup arrive?
Intel announced the fuller 14th Gen mobile and desktop lineup at CES on January 8, 2024. Its announcement included mainstream desktop processors rated at 65 watts and 35 watts, in addition to the enthusiast models introduced the previous October. Intel’s CES 2024 announcement is the source for that broader lineup scope.

So, an announcement about the October launch describes the initial unlocked enthusiast processors; it should not be read as a complete list of every 14th Gen desktop or mobile model.

The Core i9-14900K and i9-14900KF were the leading models named in Intel’s initial enthusiast launch. Intel also identified the Core i7-14700K in its 14th Gen desktop materials, making it a relevant model to investigate within the lineup. The launch materials establish that these products belong to the family; they do not establish which CPU is the best choice for a particular buyer.
