Amazon’s Fire HD 8 uses Fire OS and Amazon Appstore rather than Google Play Store. You can add Play Store by installing four Google APK packages, but the correct files depend on the tablet’s exact generation, Fire OS version, and processor architecture.
Do not use a download list made for a different Fire HD 8 generation. Amazon reuses the “Fire HD 8” name, and an APK that works on one model can fail with App not installed, crash immediately, or leave downloads stuck at Pending on another.
Before you begin
This is a sideloading procedure, not an official Amazon or Google-supported installation. It normally does not require a computer or command-line commands.
- Connect the tablet to reliable Wi‑Fi.
- Charge the tablet or connect it to power.
- Back up anything important.
- If a microSD card is installed, remove it temporarily. Some installation procedures report conflicts when the card is present.
Identify the exact Fire HD 8
- Open Settings.
- Tap Device Options.
- Tap About Fire Tablet.
- Record the full model or generation and the Fire OS version.
The Fire OS version is an important compatibility clue:

Also determine whether the tablet needs an ARM or ARM64 package. The model, Fire OS version, and CPU ABI must all match. The newest file is not automatically the right file.
Download the four APKs
Use a reputable APK archive that displays the package name, Android requirement, architecture, and build information. The commonly used source for this procedure is APKMirror. Download unmodified APKs only; avoid “modded,” repackaged, or bundled installers.
Search for these four packages and select compatible builds:

Google Play Services is the package that most often causes trouble. It has many Android-version and architecture variants. Check the variant details before downloading rather than selecting the first or latest result.

Download all four files, but do not install them in the order they appear in the Downloads folder. Download completion order can differ from the required installation order.
Allow APK installation
Fire OS changes the wording and location of this setting between generations.
Newer Fire OS versions
- Open Settings.
- Open Security & Privacy or the similarly named security section.
- Tap Install unknown apps.
- Select Silk Browser if Silk will open the downloaded files, or select Files if the file manager will open them.
- Turn on Allow from this source.
The permission belongs to the app opening the APK. Granting it to Silk will not necessarily allow Files to install the same file.

Some tablets show Settings → Security & Privacy → Apps from Unknown Sources → Silk Browser → Allow from this source. If your tablet has that menu, enable the permission for Silk.

Install Google Play Store
- Open the Files app.
- Tap Downloads.
- Open the Google Account Manager APK.
- Tap Install, wait for the installation to finish, and tap Done.
- Install Google Services Framework the same way.
- Install Google Play Services.
- Install Google Play Store last.
Use this exact sequence:
Google Account Manager → Google Services Framework → Google Play Services → Google Play Store
After each package, tap Done, not Open. Do not launch any Google component until all four packages are installed. If you accidentally install a file out of order, stop rather than repeatedly launching Play Store; verify the packages and reinstall the sequence with compatible files.
Restart and sign in
- Hold the tablet’s power button.
- Choose Restart.
- After Fire OS loads, open the app drawer.
- Open Play Store. It may be listed as “Play Store,” not “Google Play Store.”
- Sign in with your Google account.
The first launch may take around a minute while Google Services Framework registers the device. Avoid repeatedly tapping the icon during this process.
Fix common installation problems

What Play Store cannot fix
Installing Play Store does not turn a Fire HD 8 into a Google-certified Android tablet. Some apps may still refuse to install or work because they require Google certification, Play Integrity or similar device checks, particular DRM support, or Google services that Fire OS does not provide.

Banking, streaming, enterprise, and school-managed apps are among the categories most likely to impose additional restrictions. A Play Store installation can provide access to many ordinary Android apps, but it is not a guarantee that every Google Play app will run.
After a Fire OS update
A major Fire OS update can make a previously working installation unstable. If Play Store starts crashing or downloads stop after an update, check the Fire OS version again and reassess the Android-base and ARM/ARM64 requirements for Google Play Services and Play Store. Do not blindly install the newest APKs.
Remove Google Play later
You usually do not need a factory reset to remove the installation. Open Settings → Apps & Notifications or App management, select the Google components, and choose Uninstall where available. Some system-linked components may offer only Disable or Uninstall updates. A factory reset should be a last resort because it erases the tablet’s data.

Do I need a computer to install Play Store?
