Ingram Micro’s July 2025 global outage followed the company’s discovery of ransomware on certain internal systems. The company said it took some systems offline to secure its environment, disrupting its ability to process and ship orders. It reported that order processing and shipping resumed on July 9, then said operations were restored across all countries and regions where it does business.
What happened at Ingram Micro?
On July 5, 2025, Ingram Micro said it had “recently identified ransomware on certain of its internal systems.” The company took steps to secure the environment, including proactively taking some systems offline. It began an investigation with third-party cybersecurity experts and notified law enforcement. Its July 5 statement filed with the SEC and its incident updates described the immediate operational problem: the affected systems impaired its ability to process and ship orders while restoration work was underway.
The company identified ransomware as the incident type, but its public updates did not say how the attackers initially gained access or identify a threat actor. A contemporaneous Reuters report published via Investing.com likewise noted that those details had not been disclosed at the time. Claims about a particular VPN entry route or ransomware group should therefore be treated as unconfirmed, not as established facts.

The July 9 updates describe two milestones: the ability to handle orders through multiple channels across business regions, followed later that day by the company’s report of restored operations across its business geographies. These are the company’s status reports; they do not independently establish that every service or customer workflow was immediately free of limitations.

What did Ingram Micro say about business impact?
In its March 3, 2026 Form 10-K filed with the SEC, Ingram Micro said the July incident did not cause a material interruption of operations or otherwise materially adversely affect its business, financial condition, or reputation. That is the company’s assessment in its filing, not an independent determination. The filing also described costs associated with investigating the incident, remediating and restoring systems, and enhancing cybersecurity.
What is known about possible data exposure?
In January 2026, TechRadar Pro reported, citing breach notifications and a Maine Attorney General filing, that unauthorized third-party access involved certain files in internal repositories between July 2 and 3, 2025, and that 42,000 people were affected. Because the underlying filing and notifications are not directly available in the sources cited here, treat those details and the figure as secondary reporting rather than a confirmed company statement.

The July incident updates and the cited 2026 SEC filing do not establish which specific data, if any, was taken, nor do they provide a verified account of the initial access method or threat-actor identity. The available reporting about affected files should not be used to infer either point.
