Ingram Micro said it would stop doing business with Broadcom in early January 2025, while retaining limited VMware engagement in selected regions. The change followed unsuccessful negotiations and Broadcom’s effort to streamline its distribution network. For resellers, the practical next step is to confirm which distributor can support the specific VMware products, location, and transaction involved.
What changed, and when?
In December 2024, Ingram Micro announced that its Broadcom business would end effective early January 2025. It also said it would have limited engagement with VMware in select regions. Ingram described neither business as material to its own business.
Ingram said it could not reach an agreement with Broadcom that would support customer outcomes while providing an appropriate shareholder return. Broadcom, in turn, said its evolving priorities and the need for a more streamlined, focused distribution network necessitated the change. CRN reported the companies’ statements and the announcement in December 2024.
Why did Ingram Micro stop selling Broadcom?
The companies gave different but compatible explanations: Ingram cited a failed commercial agreement, while Broadcom described a strategic decision to focus its distribution network. The change came after Broadcom acquired VMware in November 2023. Ingram Micro’s 2024 annual report records that its longstanding VMware distribution relationship was discontinued effective early 2025. The filing says the change could negatively affect net sales and relationships with resellers and other customers that had historically obtained VMware solutions through Ingram.

Does Ingram Micro still sell VMware?
Not through the former broad distribution relationship described in the filing. Ingram said it would retain limited VMware engagement in selected regions, so the answer can vary by geography and current catalog. Resellers should check directly with Ingram Micro for the relevant country, product, subscription, and renewal before assuming it can fulfill an order.
Where can resellers buy VMware licenses instead?
Arrow is one reported alternative, not a confirmed universal replacement. A reseller told CRN, “We are switching from Ingram to Arrow for our Broadcom business but expect it to be just as painful.” That is one reseller’s experience; it does not establish Arrow’s authorization or availability for every geography, VMware product, or partner.
Before moving an account or placing an order, ask a prospective distributor to confirm:
- Whether it is authorized for the needed VMware products in the customer’s country.
- Whether it can handle the relevant subscription, renewal, and provisioning workflow.
- Who owns technical support and escalation after the transaction.
- How partner margins and commercial terms apply.
- When the distributor can complete the transition or fulfill the order.
These details determine whether a distributor is a workable route for a particular reseller; the available reporting does not establish a general replacement ranking.

What does “not material” mean for Ingram Micro?
Ingram characterized its Broadcom business as not material to its revenue, but did not provide a percentage or dollar figure in the cited statements. That is a company-level assessment, not proof that the change has little effect on every reseller or customer that previously used Ingram to obtain VMware products.
