The facility had around 350 employees at opening; Infineon expects that number to grow to approximately 1,000 as its first building, Module A, ramps up. That projection is separate from Thailand’s broader plan for more than 5,000 skilled local jobs across five planned phases.
What is Infineon’s new Thailand chip hub?
The site is a semiconductor manufacturing complex in Samut Prakan, near Bangkok. Infineon says it expands and geographically diversifies the company’s global production network, complementing its frontend manufacturing expansion. Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Infineon Chief Operations Officer Alexander Gorski attended the inauguration.
The facility is designed to handle several manufacturing steps at one location: wafer testing, backend assembly and testing, including power-module assembly and integrated-circuit testing. Infineon says its advanced cleanroom, assembly and test capabilities will support complex semiconductor solutions for automotive, industrial and energy-infrastructure applications. The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) also cites demand from AI data centers, electric vehicles and industrial automation.
How many jobs will the Infineon Thailand factory create?
There are two workforce estimates, and they cover different scopes:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Module A: Infineon reported around 350 employees at the site when it opened and expects approximately 1,000 as Module A ramps up. This is a forecast for the first building, not the workforce already in place.
- Five-phase project: The BOI expects more than 5,000 skilled local jobs across the planned phases, or about 1,000 per phase. This is a broader project estimate, not an immediate hiring commitment for the current operation.
Infineon says it is working with universities, educational institutions and industry partners on talent development. The BOI describes planned collaboration with the Thai Semiconductor Industry Association and local universities, including targets for at least 60 specialized courses, training for 1,100 undergraduates and 18 joint research projects. Those figures are program plans, not reported completed results.
How large is the planned investment and full site?
The BOI describes the project as a $1.4 billion (48 billion baht) investment. It says the site begins with Module A and could expand through five phases, Modules A through E. At full build, the complex could have 150,000 square meters of cleanroom space and become Infineon’s largest backend assembly and testing center worldwide.

These are planned full-build figures, not a description of the operating site at inauguration. Infineon separately describes a modular design that can grow to as many as five modules, with the potential to become one of its largest backend sites over time. The company’s description and the BOI’s claim about the largest center reflect different wording and scopes.
What the facility makes—and why the combination matters
Wafer testing checks semiconductor devices before they move into later production stages. Backend assembly packages components, while testing checks their performance. By bringing wafer test together with power-module assembly and integrated-circuit testing, the Samut Prakan complex is intended to support several steps in the manufacturing chain at one site.

That combination supports Infineon’s stated goal of expanding capacity and diversifying where it manufactures. It also aligns with the BOI’s cited demand areas: AI data centers, electric vehicles and industrial automation. The opening establishes the site’s role and planned expansion; the five-module configuration and full-build cleanroom footprint remain future possibilities.
What sustainability features has Infineon reported?
Infineon says Module A runs on 100% green electricity and includes water recycling, rainwater collection and onsite solar modules. The company’s site page sets a 25% water-recycling target and states that Module A has LEED Silver certification. The 25% figure is a target, not a reported achieved recycling rate.

What the opening signals for Thailand’s chip ambitions
The project connects a major manufacturer’s capacity expansion with Thailand’s effort to develop a larger semiconductor industry. At the inauguration, Prime Minister Anutin called the investment a “strong vote of confidence” in Thailand’s future as a semiconductor location. The BOI also quoted him describing the country’s National Semiconductor Strategy as a direction for building a competitive and resilient chip industry.
For readers assessing the project’s near-term scale, the key distinction is between an operating first module and a proposed multi-phase complex: around 350 people were employed at opening, with approximately 1,000 expected as Module A ramps up; the BOI’s more-than-5,000 skilled-job estimate applies across the planned phases.
