The reported subjects range from artificial intelligence and cybersecurity to law, finance, ecology and design. Each course is reported to run for eight weeks, with assignments and examinations required for students to receive an IIT Madras CODE e-certificate.
Enrolment timing is unclear: IIT Madras’s general October 2026 cohort deadline and start date have both passed as of 7 October 2026. The Jamia-specific report does not confirm whether the school has separate dates or is accepting late registrations.
Who can take the courses, and what are they for?
The partnership is between Jamia Senior Secondary School, part of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), and IIT Madras School Connect. The reported audience is students in Classes 9–12. The courses are intended to let students sample fields before making decisions about subject streams, undergraduate study and careers.
For students in Classes 9 and 10, that exposure may help inform the choice between Science, Commerce and Humanities in Class 11. Students in Classes 11 and 12 can explore fields as they consider undergraduate programmes and career directions. This is an opportunity to learn about subjects, not a reported guarantee of improved grades, admissions or career outcomes.

What subjects are available?
The Jamia-specific report lists courses across technology, science, social sciences and design. AI and law are two examples, not the full offering.
- Technology and computing: Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Electronic Systems, game technology, and mathematics and computing.
- Business and society: Economics and Finance, Law, and Digital Humanities.
- Science and engineering: Ecology, Forensic Sciences, Biological Systems, Chemical Engineering and Aerospace.
- Design: Architecture and Design, and Product Design.
Students can use the range to explore how a field connects with their current interests and possible future study. The available report does not rank the courses or establish which one is best for a particular student.

How the eight-week online courses work
The Jamia-specific report describes the courses as online and eight weeks long. IIT Madras’s general School Connect description says courses combine pre-recorded lectures, live sessions, assignments and computer-based assessments. The Jamia report specifically identifies assignments and examinations as completion requirements.
Students who meet the prescribed requirements receive an official IIT Madras Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE) e-certificate. The sources do not specify Jamia-specific course fees, prerequisites beyond the stated classes, or computer and internet requirements.

Are registrations open now?
That is not established for Jamia students. IIT Madras announced on 7 September 2026 that the general October 2026 cohort had a 30 September application deadline and would start on 5 October. Both dates had passed by 7 October 2026. The Jamia-specific report does not say whether Jamia followed those dates, has a separate schedule, or allows late enrolment.
For current Jamia-specific registration details, students should contact the school’s designated point of contact, PGT Computer Science Ms Wasiya Siddiqui. The school-level initiative is led by Principal Dr Mohd Arshad Khan. The Jamia report also names JMI Vice-Chancellor Prof Mazhar Asif and Registrar Prof Md Mahtab Alam Rizvi as supporting the initiative.

How this fits into IIT Madras School Connect
IIT Madras’s announcement for its October 2026 cohort described School Connect as open to Classes IX–XII, with courses in English and Hindi; it said Class IX was included for the first time. The institute described that cohort as spanning 17 disciplines.
IIT Madras reported in September 2026 that the programme had partnered with more than 4,900 schools, including more than 60 outside India, and had benefited over 1.75 lakh students since inception. Those are programme-wide figures, not Jamia participation numbers. IIT Madras stated an ambition to reach 25,000 schools; that is a target, not an achieved count.

Prof. Andrew Thangaraj, Chair of IIT Madras CODE, said: “School Connect was built to give students an opportunity to explore, experience and understand different fields before making important academic choices.”
