iFixit ended its Samsung self-repair collaboration in June 2024, two years after the program began. iFixit said parts costs, supply limits for repair shops, and glued-together assemblies made the partnership fall short of its repairability goals. Samsung’s own self-repair program continued through its official channels, while iFixit said it would keep selling Samsung parts and repair kits.
What happened to the iFixit–Samsung partnership?
Samsung announced its U.S. self-repair program with iFixit on March 31, 2022. The initial scope covered selected Galaxy S20 and S21 phones and the Galaxy Tab S7+, with display assemblies, back glass, and charging ports among the first repair targets. Samsung’s launch announcement described the program as a way to give customers more repair options.
On May 23, 2024, iFixit announced that the collaboration was ending. Beginning in June, it would no longer be Samsung’s designated third-party distributor of parts and tools. The change ended the formal partnership, not every route to Samsung parts or repair information.
- iFixit said its existing Samsung repair guides would remain available, but it would no longer develop new manuals with Samsung.
- iFixit said it would continue selling Samsung parts and repair kits, identifying parts as original or aftermarket where available.
- iFixit said repair shops would no longer face the previous limit of seven Samsung parts per shop per quarter.
In its May 23, 2024 announcement, iFixit CEO Scott Head said, “Despite our best efforts, we have not been able to deliver on that promise.”

Why did iFixit stop working with Samsung?
The explanation below is iFixit’s account of the partnership, not an independent audit or a jointly agreed explanation. iFixit said it could not supply local repair shops at prices and quantities that made business sense. It also said high parts prices led some consumers to replace devices rather than repair them.
iFixit pointed to device construction as another obstacle: glued-together designs meant screens and batteries were sold in pre-glued bundles, which could make a repair more expensive. It concluded that Samsung’s approach to repairability did not align with its mission. Head put that position plainly: “Samsung’s approach to repairability does not align with our mission.”

Samsung’s public statements presented a different emphasis. In its January 2024 U.S. expansion announcement, Samsung described its program as expanding customer choice and repair options, and identified Encompass Supply Chain Solutions as a long-standing distributor of OEM replacement parts. That announcement predates the end of the iFixit relationship; it should not be read as Samsung’s response to iFixit’s later criticisms. Samsung’s announcement described the company’s published position at that time.
Can I still buy Samsung repair parts from iFixit?
Yes, according to iFixit’s May 2024 announcement: it said it would continue selling Samsung parts and repair kits after leaving the designated-distributor role. It also said it would indicate whether available parts were original or aftermarket. That does not establish current stock, prices, or availability for every model.

A search such as “Samsung Galaxy phone repair kit” can be a starting point, not a universal recommendation: kits and parts are model-specific.
Where can I get Samsung self-repair parts and tools?
Samsung’s self-repair program continued through its own channels after the iFixit collaboration ended. The company’s 2025 Sustainability Report says the program provides genuine parts, tools, and repair manuals, with manuals downloadable from Samsung’s Service Website and parts and tools available through regional Samsung service channels. The report says customers in Korea can obtain supplies through Samsung Service Centers and the Consumables Shop on the Samsung Electronics Service website; overseas customers can purchase through the Samsung Electronics Service Website.

Samsung’s January 2024 U.S. expansion announcement named Encompass Supply Chain Solutions as its long-standing OEM parts distributor and described tool kits available with parts or separately. It also announced a broader range of device and repair options. Those were dated program details, not a live compatibility or inventory list. Check Samsung’s current local service pages and listings for your model; the report does not confirm present stock for a particular part or country.

The announced scope grew over time, but availability varied by device. Samsung’s March 2022 U.S. launch focused on selected Galaxy phones and a tablet. By January 2024, its U.S. expansion announcement described options across smartphones, tablets, Galaxy Book PCs, and selected TVs, monitors, a projector, and soundbars.

The 2025 Sustainability Report says the program expanded from the United States in 2022 into Korea, Europe, Latin America, and other regions in 2023. Regional expansion does not mean each repair, part, or device is available in every country.
How to choose a repair route
DIY, third-party parts, and a Samsung service provider involve different trade-offs. Compare the specific part and service available where you live rather than assuming one route is always cheaper or better.
- Compatibility: Match the exact model and component against a current parts listing or guide.
- Part provenance: Check whether the seller identifies the part as genuine/OEM or aftermarket.
- Total cost: Include tools, shipping, and any bundled components, not just the listed part price.
- Instructions and access: Confirm that current repair instructions and the required part are available in your country.
- Service option: Compare DIY with Samsung service or another repair provider. Samsung’s 2022 U.S. announcement described authorized, independent-provider, mail-in, and at-home service options, but current local offerings should be checked with Samsung.
Samsung reported 12,925 service centers in 217 countries as of the end of 2024 in its 2025 Sustainability Report. That figure describes its worldwide service-center network; it is not a count of self-repair locations or proof that a particular repair is available nearby.
What the partnership’s end does—and does not—tell customers
The end of the distributor relationship changed how iFixit worked with Samsung; it did not mean that Samsung’s self-repair program ended. Owners still have potential routes through iFixit and Samsung, but current part availability, price, and model coverage must be verified in the relevant local listing. The available announcements do not provide a reliable quantified comparison of repair costs with replacement costs, or a measured outcome attributable to the two-year collaboration.
