The iFi iDSD GR2 MT is a “Master Tuned” special edition of iFi’s portable DAC and headphone amplifier. Announced on October 1, 2026, it keeps the standard GR2’s Burr-Brown PCM1795 DAC but adds component changes and two digital filters voiced with record producer Steve Levine. iFi and Levine describe the tuning goals; the available launch coverage does not provide an independent listening verdict on the MT.
What does “Master Tuned” mean?
“MT” stands for “Master Tuned.” The GR2 MT is not a new DAC architecture: it retains the standard GR2’s Burr-Brown PCM1795 digital-to-analogue converter, while iFi describes changes to the circuit board and several components, and adds two filters voiced with Levine.
Levine is a record producer and a Brit Award winner. In iFi’s October 1, 2026 announcement, he said: “The goal of any producer is to document the authenticity and emotion behind the artist’s performance,” adding, “I have voiced the iDSD GR2 MT with this same goal in mind, and I hope you feel that when you listen”. This is a statement of intent, not an independently established account of how the device sounds.
How does the GR2 MT differ from the regular GR2?
iFi’s launch announcement describes these hardware and tuning changes. They are manufacturer specifications, not independently verified measurements of the MT’s performance.

The MT also has an illuminated logo on its touch display and Levine’s signature on the rear, according to the announcement. The launch materials do not establish what audible difference, if any, the component substitutions or filters make compared with the regular GR2.
What connections and features does it offer?
The official release lists Bluetooth 5.4 with aptX Lossless and LDAC, digital and analogue connections, hybrid power modes, and a desktop mode that can bypass the internal battery. It also says the unit works with the iFi Nexis app for updates and control. These describe supported features; they do not demonstrate sound superiority.

What Hi-Fi’s October 1, 2026 report specifies balanced 4.4mm and single-ended 3.5mm connections, USB-C, and a combined optical/coaxial input. It also lists aptX Adaptive. iFi states that the device delivers over 1,500mW RMS at 32 ohms; that is a manufacturer-stated output figure, not an independent measurement.
How much does it cost compared with the regular GR2?
What Hi-Fi reported the following launch prices on October 1, 2026. They are reported launch figures, not verified current retail prices or a like-for-like comparison across currencies.

The reported prices put the MT above the regular GR2 in the UK and US figures. Whether its premium is worthwhile depends on whether the buyer values the MT’s specified component changes, Levine-voiced filters, and cosmetic details; the launch sources do not establish an independent sound-based reason to pay more.
What should a buyer check before choosing?
- Connection fit: Check that your headphones and source can use the listed 4.4mm or 3.5mm connections, USB-C, or the combined optical/coaxial input as needed.
- Wireless codec support: Match the listed Bluetooth codecs to your phone or other source; codec availability depends on the transmitting device as well.
- Reason for the upgrade: The MT’s documented distinctions are its specified component substitutions, two Levine-voiced filters, and edition-specific cosmetic touches. The available launch coverage does not independently test their effects on sound.
- Actual price and availability: Treat the figures above as launch prices. Confirm the seller’s current price, stock, and regional terms before buying.

The October 1, 2026 announcement and launch report identify the MT’s stated hardware changes, features, and launch positioning. They do not provide an independent listening test, direct product measurements, or verified current street pricing. For now, the clearest comparison is therefore about documented components and features rather than a proven difference in sound.
