PANews compiled a conversation with the program When Shift Happens and identified Jeff as the founder of Hyperliquid Labs. Jeff criticized projects that, in his account, prioritize issuing tokens, securing investment from large market makers, and using incentives to attract transactions instead of developing a user-first product and gaining real users.
PANews’s English compilation renders his view as: “Most projects take shortcuts: first obtain investment from large market makers, and then attract transactions through incentive programs. This model is unsustainable in the long run.” Because the page is an interview compilation and the original recording was not verified, treat that English wording as an attributed rendering, not a confirmed verbatim transcript. Why the headline’s Wall Street claim needs qualification
The reported criticism concerns practices Jeff associates with some cryptocurrency projects. The account does not establish a Wall Street-wide wealth-creation model, nor does it provide evidence that most participants—whether in crypto or traditional finance—use this approach. It includes no statistic, project sample, or comparative analysis measuring how widespread the practices are.

How to understand the growth model Jeff criticizes
Jeff’s argument contrasts activity generated by incentives with demand rooted in a product people choose to use. Market-maker backing and trading rewards are not, by themselves, evidence that a project has lasting users. The interview report does not provide project-level data or a scoring method for judging whether any particular platform’s activity is durable.

- Recurring users: Does the product attract people who return, rather than only participants responding to rewards?
- Market-maker backing: Is financing or market support a central part of the project’s growth story?
- Incentivized trading: Are rewards being used to generate transactions, and is that activity sustained beyond the incentive?
These are questions suggested by the practices Jeff criticized, not a validated test or a finding about any specific project.

PANews describes Hyperliquid as a decentralized perpetual-contract trading platform and Layer 1 project. In the interview report, Jeff describes goals that include low fees, fast transfers, instant settlement, liquidity comparable to centralized exchanges, integration with other applications, collateralized lending, and user control of funds. These are the founder’s descriptions of the platform’s aims; the report does not independently verify performance against those goals.
