The Hunker Pod is a removable camper interior designed for one specific vehicle configuration: a Ram ProMaster with a 159-inch wheelbase, model year 2014 or newer. Hunker lists the Pod at $32,995 before the cost of the van. Its advertised equipment includes a queen bed, lounge, kitchen, refrigerator, fresh-water system, and off-grid power. It is not a universal slide-in insert, so confirm that your exact van qualifies before reserving.

What the Hunker Pod is

Hunker describes the Pod as a complete campervan conversion that can be professionally installed in about an hour rather than built into a van over weeks. The system is developed by Innovation4Van and refined for North America by the team behind Native Campervans. Hunker says its layout draws on more than 11 years of operating and renting ProMaster campervans; that experience claim comes from the company, not an independent evaluation. Hunker’s product page presents it as a removable interior rather than a permanent custom conversion.

Hunker says the Pod needs no exterior modifications. SlashGear reports that it attaches to factory inserts with bolts and requires no drilling, but that mounting detail is company-reported information, not the result of an independent hands-on inspection. SlashGear’s September 20, 2026 coverage quotes Hunker’s reasoning: “never made much sense to us [to keep] spending tens of thousands of dollars on a camper build that’s permanently tied to a vehicle that will eventually wear out.”

Will it fit your van?

Hunker currently specifies a Ram ProMaster with a 159-inch wheelbase, model year 2014 or newer. That is a narrow fitment requirement: a different wheelbase, model year, or van make should not be assumed compatible. Hunker says Ford Transit and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter versions are in development, but does not list them as available products or give a release date. Confirm the exact vehicle configuration directly with Hunker before buying a van for the Pod. Hunker’s FAQ also explains that the camper system is sold separately from the vehicle.

What equipment is included?

Hunker advertises a queen bed, lounge, kitchen and prep space, storage, Dometic refrigerator, fresh-water system, and TrekMount electrical system. The product page lists a 312Ah lithium battery, 1,200-watt inverter, USB charging, and dimmable LED lighting. These are company-listed features; confirm which equipment is included in the specific configuration you are offered and which items or upgrades affect the final price.

What does it cost?

Hunker lists a starting price of $32,995 for the Pod; the ProMaster is extra. On its ownership page, Hunker estimates a total of about $55,000 with a used van and about $78,000 with a new one. The company says those estimates vary by location, options, and vehicle condition. They are seller estimates, not independently audited or market-wide totals. Hunker also compares the Pod with conventional campervan builds and claims traditional builds can cost $120,000–$200,000 or more; treat that range as Hunker’s comparison, not an independently established typical price. See Hunker’s cost and ownership page for its stated assumptions.

These are current company terms and may change, so verify the deposit, installation arrangements, and included equipment before committing.

Can you remove it, use the van for cargo, or transfer it?

Hunker presents the Pod as removable, so the camper interior is not intended to remain permanently built into the vehicle. That may let an owner return a compatible van to other uses, including cargo hauling, once the system is removed. Hunker also says the Pod can move to another compatible ProMaster. The transfer claim does not mean it will fit another van model or every ProMaster configuration; the replacement vehicle still needs to meet Hunker’s fitment requirements.

Pod versus a conventional fixed conversion

The central trade-off is a specialized, removable system with a stated vehicle fitment against a conversion built into a chosen van. The details below describe Hunker’s Pod offer; they are not a comparative product test.

How to decide whether it suits you

  • Start with the van. If you already own a ProMaster, confirm its year and wheelbase against Hunker’s requirement before proceeding.
  • Compare total ownership cost. Add the separate van cost, any chosen options, and your own vehicle condition or location considerations; do not treat Hunker’s example totals as a quote.
  • Confirm the delivered configuration. Ask Hunker to specify the equipment and upgrades included at the price you are considering.
  • Weigh removability against flexibility. The ability to remove or transfer the Pod matters most if you expect to use the van for non-camping work or replace the vehicle later.
  • Try a rental if available. Hunker points to Native Campervans Biggie rentals as a way to experience the Pod before buying. Check Native Campervans for current locations, availability, and terms.
