Start by trying another title and device; then close Hulu, restart your device and router, update the app, and clear its cache or reinstall it if needed. Simple local problems may clear in minutes, but an issue affecting multiple devices or networks may need Hulu’s attention.
First, find out how widespread the error is
Before changing settings, check whether P-DEV336 affects one title, one device, or all of Hulu. That distinction helps you avoid repeatedly reinstalling an app when the cause may be elsewhere. Hulu’s general troubleshooting guidance covers connection and power-cycle steps, but its public pages do not provide a code-specific diagnosis: internet-connection help and device-support troubleshooting.
- One title fails: Try another program and retry the original later. The issue may be limited to that title or, for Live TV, a particular channel.
- Every title fails on one device: Focus first on the app, device software, local app data, or device compatibility.
- Hulu fails on several devices at home: Test another network if possible. A shared network, account, or service issue becomes more plausible, though this alone does not prove Hulu is down.
- Other streaming services fail too: Check the network connection before making more changes to Hulu.
- Live TV fails while on-demand works: Try another channel. A user report associates P-DEV336 with changing Hulu Live channels, but that report does not establish a universal cause: Hulu Live channel-change report.
If available, open Hulu on a phone or computer using the same account, then test over cellular data or a hotspot. If Hulu works on the alternate network but not home Wi-Fi, investigate the home router, DNS, or filtering setup rather than repeating device repairs.
Try these low-risk fixes in order
- Retry and switch titles. Select Retry or OK if shown, or return to Hulu and start another title. Note whether the failure is limited to a show, channel, or device.
- Fully close Hulu. Exit the app and use the device’s force-stop option if available. Returning to the home screen may leave the app running. Reopen Hulu and test playback.
- Restart the device. Turn off the TV, streaming stick, phone, tablet, console, or computer, then turn it back on and relaunch Hulu. On a TV or streaming stick, disconnecting power can be more complete than using the remote’s sleep button; do not unplug equipment during a firmware update.
- Power-cycle the network equipment. Turn off the affected streaming device and modem/router. Allow the network equipment to restart fully, reconnect the device, and test Hulu. Hulu includes power-cycling and connection improvement in its general streaming guidance: Hulu connection troubleshooting and Hulu buffering help.
- Install available updates. Check the device’s official app store for a Hulu update, and check the device or operating-system settings for software updates. Update your browser if you watch on the web. Menu names differ by platform, so use the instructions for your device rather than assuming one Android menu path applies everywhere.
- Clear Hulu’s cache, if the device offers that control. Look in the device’s Settings under Apps, Applications, or Manage Apps; select Hulu and choose Clear Cache. If that does not help, Clear Data or Reset App may be available. Those options can sign you out and reset local settings. Many platforms, including some TVs, consoles, Roku devices, and Apple devices, do not expose a separate cache-clear control; restart or reinstall Hulu instead.
- Reinstall Hulu as a last local repair. Uninstall the app, restart the device, reinstall Hulu from its official app store, sign in, and test playback. This takes longer than a restart and may remove local settings or downloads. Check VPNs, filters, and restricted networks
A device can be online while Hulu’s playback connection is blocked or disrupted. Temporarily test without a VPN, proxy, Smart DNS, Pi-hole, network-level ad blocker, custom DNS filter, or restrictive router rule. A hotspot or cellular connection is often a simpler diagnostic than changing router settings.

- If Hulu works on a hotspot but not at home, the home network, DNS configuration, filtering policy, or ISP path may be involved.
- Hotel, school, workplace, and public Wi-Fi may require a browser sign-in before streaming apps can connect.
- A speed test can look normal even when DNS filtering, a VPN, or a device’s playback path is causing trouble.
Do not start by disabling IPv6, assigning a fixed IP address, or resetting the router to factory settings. Those changes can affect other devices and are not established as standard Hulu fixes. A third-party guide lists advanced network suggestions and an HDMI 1.4 change for certain Nvidia Shield configurations; these are device-specific experiments, not general instructions for all TVs or streaming devices: WindowsReport’s device-specific suggestions.
Check device support before repeating app repairs
An older TV or streaming device may no longer meet Hulu’s current requirements, even if the app is still installed. Check Hulu’s current supported-device troubleshooting information rather than relying on a static model list. If Hulu works on a supported phone or computer but not on the TV, the TV app installation, software, or compatibility is a more useful place to focus. A supported browser or another supported streaming device can be a temporary alternative.

When to stop troubleshooting and contact Hulu
Contact Hulu if P-DEV336 persists after restarting, updating, clearing available app data, and reinstalling, or if the problem affects several supported devices, all titles, or multiple Live TV channels. It is also worth contacting support when Hulu works on another network but consistently fails on your home connection, or when the account shows sign-in, subscription, location, or authorization problems.
Use Hulu’s streaming-issues contact flow. Before contacting support, note the device model, its software version, Hulu app version if shown, the title or channel affected, when the error occurred, which networks and devices you tested, and the fixes already attempted. Hulu’s Help Center currently says live support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week; check the Help Center for current contact options: Hulu Help Center.

If Hulu fails across devices and networks, repeated local repairs are unlikely to be useful. The code alone cannot establish whether the underlying problem is Hulu’s service, the account, the network, device compatibility, or the playback path.
