Huawei announced the global release of its Mate XT | ULTIMATE DESIGN tri-fold phone on February 18, 2025, within Q1. But the September 2024 report that forecast a Q1 global arrival was not an announced worldwide shipping date, and retail timing varied by market.
What happened to the Q1 2025 launch report?
In September 2024, Android Authority reported that Huawei’s Mate XT, which had launched in China, was expected to reach global markets in Q1 2025. That was a forecast, not a confirmed date for stores or deliveries around the world. The report also speculated that overseas pricing could exceed $3,000; it was not a confirmed global price. Malaysia’s retail dates and price
Huawei Malaysia’s 2025 sales terms listed presales starting February 18 and the sales period starting March 15, 2025, with a local price of RM14,999. What is the Mate XT | ULTIMATE DESIGN?

Huawei’s China product page calls the Mate XT the world’s first commercially available tri-fold smartphone, based on commercially launched products as of September 10, 2024. This is Huawei’s stated, date-qualified claim. Huawei China Mate XT product page
What did the global release mean for buyers?
“Global release” identifies Huawei’s announcement and intended broader-market release; it does not establish simultaneous retail availability, confirmed local stock, or current purchase terms in every country. The documented Malaysian sales dates are specific to Malaysia and 2025. For a purchase decision, check Huawei or an authorized local seller for current availability, configuration, warranty and service coverage, and software support in your country.

Price also depends on market: AP reported €3,499 at the Kuala Lumpur launch, while Huawei Malaysia’s 2025 terms list RM14,999. These are market-specific historical figures in different currencies, not directly interchangeable prices or evidence of today’s pricing.

The Mate XT’s three-folding design set it apart in a phone market where, in IDC device-research vice president Bryan Ma’s words to AP, “Right now, Huawei kind of stands alone as an innovator” with the tri-fold design. Ma also pointed to constraints on Huawei’s ecosystem: “not getting access to chips, to Google services. All these things basically have been huge roadblocks in front of Huawei.” These are Ma’s assessments as reported by AP, not statements by Huawei or a universal verdict on the phone.
