HPE and Cisco both sell broad enterprise networking portfolios, but neither is an automatic portfolio winner. HPE’s networking business changed materially when it completed its acquisition of Juniper Networks on July 2, 2025, combining Juniper with Aruba. Cisco spans campus and access networking through WAN, data center, and cloud, alongside security, collaboration, and observability. For investors, the useful comparison is not a tally of product names: it is a comparison of company-wide growth, profitability, cash flow, valuation, balance-sheet risk, capital returns, and execution on aligned dates and definitions. The available company disclosures establish neither which stock is cheaper nor which is the better investment for a particular investor.

What changed for HPE after it acquired Juniper?

HPE completed its acquisition of Juniper Networks on July 2, 2025. HPE said the deal doubled the size of its networking business and brought together Aruba’s strengths with Juniper’s positions in data-center networking, service-provider routing, and AI-native networking. Those are HPE’s strategic claims; they do not independently demonstrate realized growth, customer outcomes, or integration benefits. HPE’s acquisition announcement provides the company’s account of the close and rationale.

HPE’s FY2025 filing describes a combined hardware-and-software portfolio that includes access points, CX and QFX switches, MX and PTX routers, gateways, and management platforms such as Mist and Aruba Central. HPE’s data-center portfolio also presents Apstra and Mist capabilities. HPE’s data-center networking portfolio is useful for understanding the products HPE markets, but product descriptions alone are not independent evidence of performance.

How does Cisco’s networking portfolio compare?

Cisco’s networking portfolio covers campus and access, branch, WAN, data center, hybrid cloud, and multicloud. Its named offerings include Catalyst switches and access points, Meraki products, and Nexus data-center networking. Cisco also sells security, collaboration, and observability products, so networking is part of a wider enterprise technology business rather than the whole company. Its networking overview lays out the company’s product domains.

#1 Best Overall
NETGEAR 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Unmanaged Network Switch (GS305)
  • GIGABIT ETHERNET PORTS: Features 5 x 1.0Gbps Ethernet ports for high-speed connectivity. Auto-negotiating ports detect the optimal speed for connected devices and work with existing Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cables.
  • PLUG-AND-PLAY UNMANAGED NETWORK SWITCH: Simple plug-and-play setup with no software to install or configuration required.
  • FLEXIBLE MOUNTING OPTIONS: Compact metal design supports desktop or wall-mount placement for versatile installation.
  • SILENT & ENERGY-EFFICIENT OPERATION: Fanless design ensures silent performance, while IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet reduces power consumption without compromising high-speed network performance.
  • REGIONAL COMPATIBILITY: Made for use in U.S. & CA only

The practical distinction is portfolio shape, not proof that one vendor is superior. HPE now combines Aruba and Juniper capabilities; Cisco presents products across access, WAN, data center, and cloud. An organization evaluating technology should map each portfolio against its own requirements—such as campus access, routing, data-center design, cloud management, security, and migration—rather than infer fit from breadth alone. The cited company material does not provide independent performance testing or comparative customer-satisfaction evidence.

What do the latest comparable revenue figures show?

Cisco reported $28.304 billion in FY2025 networking product revenue, down 3% from $29.229 billion in FY2024. Cisco attributed the decline mainly to normalization after elevated prior-year product shipments and a decrease in campus switching. The figure is Cisco’s reported product category, which includes switching, routing, wireless, and servers; it is not a pure measure of networking hardware demand. See Cisco’s FY2025 annual report for its definitions and discussion.

That figure cannot be compared directly with HPE networking segment revenue as if the measures had identical scope. HPE reports by segment, and Juniper’s addition changes the scope and comparability of its networking business. Fiscal periods and category definitions also need to be aligned. A meaningful growth comparison would first reconcile what each figure includes and then compare matched reporting periods; the figures above do not establish which company’s networking business is growing faster on a like-for-like basis.

What should an investor compare beyond networking?

Networking portfolio fit and stock fit are different questions. Cisco’s networking revenue figure and HPE’s evolving segment scope are not enough to evaluate either company as an investment. A stock comparison also needs company-wide results and market pricing, which the portfolio and cited revenue evidence here do not settle.

NETGEAR 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Unmanaged Network Switch (GS308)

  • Growth: Compare company-wide growth and relevant business trends over matched fiscal periods; account for HPE’s Juniper acquisition when interpreting year-over-year changes.
  • Profitability and cash generation: Assess margins and free cash flow using consistent definitions and periods rather than treating product revenue as a proxy for earnings.
  • Valuation: Compare current valuation against the financial measures and assumptions that matter to your investment horizon. Portfolio breadth alone does not establish that a stock is attractively priced.
  • Balance sheet and capital returns: Review debt, cash, dividends, repurchases, and other capital-allocation decisions in each company’s current filings.
  • Execution: Judge HPE’s integration of Aruba and Juniper from reported results and customer evidence over time, not only from deal rationale or management positioning.

These checks require current filings and market data. The cited material does not provide a complete, aligned comparison of HPE’s and Cisco’s valuation, margins, free cash flow, debt, or capital returns, so it cannot support a stock recommendation.

How should you interpret each company’s AI-networking claims?

HPE’s December 3, 2025 announcement described continued integration of Aruba Central and Mist capabilities. HPE Networking EVP, President and General Manager Rami Rahim said: “In the era of AI, customers need networks that are purpose-built with AI and for AI to handle the rapid growth of connected devices, complex environments, and increasing security threats.” This is executive positioning, not a neutral assessment of product superiority. HPE’s December 2025 announcement describes the company’s plans.

Cisco’s FY2025 summary annual report also frames AI as a source of network demand. Chair and CEO Chuck Robbins wrote: “The next phase of AI, driven by autonomous agents in constant interaction, will create unprecedented demand for faster, more intelligent, and more secure networks.” This is management’s view of demand, not a measured forecast. Cisco’s FY2025 summary annual report supplies the statement in context. Neither quotation establishes how much revenue either company will realize from AI networking or which offering performs better.

Which company fits a particular investor?

The evidence supports a conditional decision, not a universal winner. HPE may merit closer examination if your investment thesis centers on its expanded networking portfolio and the execution of the Aruba–Juniper combination. Cisco may merit closer examination if your thesis centers on its broad networking footprint and wider enterprise product portfolio. Those are starting points for due diligence, not investment conclusions: the cited disclosures do not establish expected returns, relative valuation, or suitability for an individual investor.
