The announcements describe a service portfolio—not a standalone consumer migration tool—and date from 2015 and 2020, so they do not establish which services are currently available.
What Virtustream’s migration approach includes
Virtustream has framed migration complexity as more than moving workloads between environments. Its June 2020 announcement said that migrating and managing mission-critical applications can require specialist technical skills and consume internal IT capacity through labor-intensive, time-consuming tasks. The company presented xStreamCare as a way to support that work alongside its cloud platform.
The June announcement described services for migration and management of mission-critical applications, including SAP. The December 2020 announcement described xStreamCare support across planning, migration, integration, and optimization. These are company descriptions of its intended service scope, not independent evidence of outcomes or performance.
Examples aimed at SAP environments
The clearest workload fit in the announcements is enterprise software, particularly SAP. Virtustream’s 2020 examples address recurring operational work around SAP systems as well as migration preparation.

- System Copy Services for SAP: Virtustream described a simplified process for homogeneous system copies and client refreshes.
- Custom operating-system image management: The company said this capability was intended to speed virtual-machine creation.
- Data Slicing and Masking Services for SAP: Announced in December 2020 as an xStreamCare service.
- Application management: The June 2020 announcement said Professional & Application Managed Services could be available off-hours.
Virtustream said its xStreamCare services were backed by experience supporting the migration of “thousands of SAP applications.” That is a vendor claim in its December 2020 announcement; the announcement does not provide independent verification.
Cloud context and historical delivery partners
Dell’s 2015 acquisition announcement described Virtustream as serving enterprises that migrate, run, and manage mission-critical enterprise applications, including SAP. A separate Dell announcement that year positioned Virtustream within a broader Dell portfolio spanning private, managed, and public cloud offerings. These releases provide historical context, not a current comparison of cloud providers or confirmation of today’s portfolio.

Historical partner announcements also show that Virtustream’s SAP-related work has involved broader service-provider ecosystems. In July 2016, Capgemini described collaboration with Virtustream on modernization, transformation, migration, and hosting for private and hybrid SAP cloud environments, including SAP HANA and SAP S/4HANA. In September 2017, NTT Communications announced a multi-tenant SAP cloud service developed with Virtustream and EMC Japan, alongside managed services. Those announcements establish past activity only; they do not confirm current partner status.
