Turn-by-turn directions with an in-lens map are documented for Meta Ray-Ban Display, not standard Ray-Ban Meta camera-and-audio glasses. On Display, open Maps, choose a destination, and start a walking route; the glasses show a visual map and provide audio directions. The feature is currently described as beta and limited to select cities, and it requires precise, always-available location access for the Meta AI app.
Which Ray-Ban Meta glasses show navigation?
The documented visual Maps experience is for Meta Ray-Ban Display. Ray-Ban specifies an integrated full-color, 600×600-pixel in-lens display on that model (Ray-Ban Meta Display product page). Ray-Ban’s navigation instructions and city list are also specifically for Display. They do not establish that standard Ray-Ban Meta camera-and-audio glasses offer the same on-lens map interface.
The Maps experience is described as pedestrian navigation with a visual map and audio directions. It uses map data from Overture and OpenStreetMap, according to Ray-Ban’s official FAQ. The FAQ does not explain the routing engine, how the glasses determine their location, how often routes refresh, or which calculations happen on the phone versus the glasses.
How to start a walking route
- Open Maps: From the glasses’ display menu, swipe down and select Maps.
- Choose a destination: Dictate a destination, or swipe right to browse nearby Cafes, Restaurants, Parks, or Attractions. Ray-Ban gives these voice examples: “Hey Meta, find restaurants near me” and “Hey Meta, navigate me to [location].” Voice navigation is described as available in select cities.
- Start directions: Select a location, then choose Start.
- Adjust or stop navigation: Select the compass control to switch between north-up and direction-facing map orientation. Use the speaker control to mute audio directions, or choose End to stop the route.
The FAQ also says you can call or share a place to your phone’s navigation app. It does not specify that this hands off an active route or describe compatibility with particular phone-navigation apps.

Location permissions the Meta AI app needs
Ray-Ban says the Meta AI mobile app needs location access set to “Always on” or “Allow all the time”, along with “Precise” location, in the phone’s settings. The exact menu path varies by phone and operating-system version; use your device’s app-permission settings to grant both levels of access to Meta AI.
Where pedestrian navigation is available
The current Ray-Ban FAQ describes pedestrian navigation as a beta available only in select cities. Its list, as accessed on October 7, 2026, names these locations:

Check the live FAQ for your city before relying on the feature; availability can change. Meta announced on March 31, 2026, that pedestrian navigation would expand to every US city in May (Meta newsroom announcement). However, the FAQ’s current list remains limited, so the announcement alone does not confirm that nationwide coverage is now available.
What cycling, transit, and landmark directions mean
In a September 2026 announcement, Meta said cycling turn-by-turn directions and real-time transit departures would become available starting later that month in the US and Canada. Meta also described walking prompts that refer to visible surroundings—for example, turning at a yellow house—instead of relying on street names (Meta’s September 2026 announcement). These are rollout claims; the current FAQ excerpt does not confirm that every feature is available to every user or in every location.

What is—and is not—known about navigation performance
Ray-Ban’s published information establishes the feature’s basic controls, location-permission requirements, map-data sources, and supported locations. It does not provide a navigation-accuracy rate, error measurement, or comparative performance results. Claims about how reliably it handles a particular route, or how it compares with phone navigation, cannot be quantified from the published details cited here.
