Then contact official support or use an in-product appeal if one is offered for your specific restriction. You may not be able to withdraw while the review is active: available actions depend on the exchange, your location, the reason for the review, the asset, and the withdrawal method.
What “under review” means for your funds
“Under review” is not one universal account status with one standard remedy. An exchange may be checking a security event, identity information, a payment reversal, suspected scam activity, or a legal or compliance issue. The review might apply to your whole account, one withdrawal, a funding method, or a particular feature. Check the exact wording in your account rather than assuming every restriction works the same way.
Some exchanges disable deposits and withdrawals during a review. Others may leave certain actions available, depending on the restriction. For example, Coinbase says some customers may be able to convert crypto to cash and withdraw it to a verified bank account, but this option is not available to every restricted account or location, and responding to review notices does not guarantee that restrictions will be removed: Coinbase’s restricted-account guidance.
What to do first

Confirm the notice is genuine
Open the exchange’s official app or type its known website address yourself. Check the account banner and the email address registered to your account, including the spam folder. Do not follow unsolicited instructions from people claiming to be support on social media, in messaging apps, or through search ads. Kraken warns that scammers impersonate support and pressure customers; use the exchange’s official support channel instead: Kraken’s account-restriction guidance.

Identify what is actually restricted
Look for whether the notice concerns the whole account, a particular withdrawal, a funding-method hold, a verification failure, a recent security change, or account closure. These distinctions matter: they can determine whether the restriction is time-based, needs manual review, or has an appeal option. If the notice is vague, ask support to identify the restriction type without demanding details the exchange may not be able to disclose.

Complete the requested steps through the official workflow
Submit accurate identity or transaction information only through the exchange’s app, website, or other official channel. Keep a copy of the notice, your case or reference number, relevant dates, and what you submitted. Kraken advises customers to respond promptly to requests for additional information. Binance describes an in-product withdrawal appeal for certain failed-verification situations, but not all restrictions are appealable: Binance’s withdrawal-reactivation guidance.

Ask support a focused question
Use the official support channel and ask: “Is this a time-based withdrawal hold or a manual account review? Is any withdrawal method currently available? What exact information is still required, and where should I submit it? Is there an appeal route for this restriction?” Support may not disclose every risk signal or account-closure detail; Kraken says it may withhold some details for privacy and security reasons: Kraken’s closed-account guidance.

Do not try to bypass the restriction
Do not open another account to evade a review, misstate who owns the funds, use another person’s bank account, or send assets to an address supplied by a supposed helper. A hardware wallet, recovery service, or “release fee” cannot make an exchange approve a held withdrawal. The exchange controls access to the balance while it reviews the account.

How the process differs by exchange
The examples below describe specific help-page guidance, not a universal schedule or guarantee. Review the current notice in your account, since availability and procedures can vary by restriction and location.

Before you make or retry a withdrawal
- Check whether the exchange has released the funds. If withdrawals remain disabled or the withdrawal is on hold, a new attempt may not help. Follow the account notice or ask Support whether the hold is still active.
- Verify the destination and asset details. Only proceed through the exchange’s official withdrawal flow, and confirm the destination details and any network selection before submitting.
- Understand the point of no return. Kraken says crypto withdrawals cannot be retrieved after they are withdrawn. Once a transaction has been broadcast to a blockchain, the exchange generally cannot reverse it. If the status is still Initiated or Pending, Kraken says cancellation may be requested, but a Pending cancellation is not guaranteed: Kraken withdrawal-status guidance.
When a review takes longer than expected
Ask Support for the current status, what information is still needed, and whether the restriction has an appeal route. Keep your case number and a dated record of messages and submissions. Do not treat a platform-specific hold duration as a deadline for an account review: time-based funding holds, manual checks, and legal or compliance restrictions are different situations.
If you received a formal legal notice, seek advice appropriate to your jurisdiction rather than treating general exchange help pages as a legal determination. The exchange and the rules applicable to your location determine what it can disclose or permit; there is no single regulator or complaint route that can be recommended without knowing your country and circumstances.
